Ape Hanger help 10 Months, 2 Weeks ago
So I decided to go with baron Kong 16" apes I talked to my dealer and they will charge me $600 to do all the work, including the actual cables and install, hydraulics, and electrical work. However they want to wait till the winter (October/November). I'm debating on whether or not I want to just do it myself. I see on the Baron website they want $400 just for the cables so at that price I might just wait till fall and have the dealer put them on for an extra $200.
I need some assistance in where to get the cables and hydraulic line and what size I need. I have an 08 roadie, don't know if that helps. I've never done any handlebar swaps but I have done lots of electrical work so I don't think that will be an issue. Any tips /suggestions for me?

Check with Tim b at metric magic for the cables and hose. www.metric-magic.com
Go to his site and send him an email and he will get back with ya pretty quick. That's where I got all my stuff and he's a great guy to deal with. I doubt you can find a better deal.

You can also call Shane here. http://www.sscustomcycle.com/ Tim and Him are close in pricing and he is in New York so he is a lot closer to you. I have bought from both and they are both good guys.

Thank you both! I have some reading to do!

Roger- can he help me with the hydraulic line as well? I'm guessing this line is too big for inside the bars. This may be a dub question, but do they make a chrome line for this?

You'll want to go +8 on cables, I went +10 on my throttles you can see in my sig pic..a bit long unless that's what you want. Seriously for $200 labor I would wait if they are good at doing apes

Yes, he can get you everything you need, even the bars if you haven't already. You can get everything in braided stainless lines like JB has in his Sig pic.

I was thinking that as well, unless I can find cables cheaper then $400. If I can find them cheaper I will do it myself, if not I will probably be waiting.

$200.00 may be a great price for labor but only if they don't cause $1,000.00 in damage and screw everything up! You better make sure your dealers mechanics know what they're doing. If you want peace of mind, do it yourself. You already said you are familiar with electrical, that's the toughest part.
