Tire Size 7 Years, 8 Months ago

My wife has 1100 Custom and if any of you have looked at one they have a huge rear tire. Ive got a midnite star with factory tires on it. She refers to it as having a sissy tire. My question is can we mount a tire as big on a Roadstar without modifications?

Hi there,
The only way to get as much meat on the ground as your wife 170 rear tire on her 1100, is to get some aftermarket wheels. You can put a 160 tire under your rear fender with the stock wheel, but the skinny wheel won't put any more meat on the ground. The 160 tire will raise your seat height a bit, and will also correct your speedo error which is probably around 3% high from the factory. I had a 1100 custom, before I bought my Roadie. I bought the Roadie used, and the original owner had installed some RC Component Regal wheels on it. The rear wheel is now 5.5" wide, compared to 3.5" wide for the stocker. The 180 Metzler rear tire fills out the back fender nicely.

You could try telling your wife that you have no 'shortcomings' that you need to compensate for with a big tire...
With new wheels and a little subframe grinding, I'm told you can get tires as big as 240 in there. Seems a little too much to me, maybe a 200 without surgery I'd say.

Quite some guys installed a 180 on the stock 3.5" rim but it does not relly look bigger.
The stock rim is just to narrow for a bigger tire.
You really need a 5.5" rim to install a 180 and it takes just a little grinding of the rear fender subframe.
