Warm up time 4 Years, 6 Months ago
How long should it take for a RS to warm up? I don't want to let it idol forever but on a chilly mid 40 degree day it seems to take at least 10 to 15 minutes or I'm reaching for the choke going down the road.

One minute ... or whatever time it takes to get my gloves on.

Choke goes about 1/2 way before I take off and then 1/4 choke after 1 - 2 miles and no choke after 2 - 3 miles.

You mileage may vary.

What Doc said. Just take it easy until it's warmed up.

I warm up my engine to the point that I can turn off the choke before taking off... this is recommended by Yamaha..They say to never ride with the enrichener on...in their bulletin....
You asked how long before the engine is warmed up....

As stated in the bulletin .... warm up time can be up to 10 minutes or longer and that is normal
Sounds like you are doing things normal..

Note...in the second page....issues arising from insufficient warm up are not warrantable defects

On cold mornings, they require longer warm up, it's that simple. I give a full pull on the choke, let it run for 30-60 seconds, then half choke for a good 2 minutes, turn off the choke (I HAVE to rev it some to keep it from stalling................hello neighbors ) then let it idle for a minute or 2 and I'm off. So far so good. BB

Now that it's getting into winter time, I guess a lot of these questions will come up. I rode to work yesterday on the bike, and it was 38 degrees. I started on choke, for just a few seconds, then backed out of the driveway. It stalled on the way down. Then restarted. Then at the bottom of the drive, stalled again. Restarted and drove to the first stop sign about a block away. Yep, she's all warmed up and ready. Took about two minutes.

Proper jetting. Not too rich, but a long way from being too lean.

All is well.

Russ

PS
Yes, I do design these bras, and I'd love to do it at your wedding if you'll have me.

full choke for about 20 seconds, half choke for a minute or two then I ride easy for a mile. By then I turn the choke off and I'm on my way. I have been riding in the 30's for the past two weeks. Same routine everyday.

I guess that Musky could put a copy of Russ's sigpic next to his bike once spring returns to Minnesota maybe that would help defrost it...

BTW I have watched carefully but I can defintely say that Musky's bike is in hibernation since it hasn't moved since he put that lovely red cover over it...

Right now in NH according to the weather channel it is 45F but feels like 39F and it's only going to get worse.

Right now the warm up time here is more like 30 minutes....

Time for a nap (maybe until late march)
