Bought my 2000 new. I now have and I just went out to check 58,295 miles. I have had the transmission recall, I did replace my clutches a few months back. It wore premature due to fringe hanging from the clutch cable. It seems that when doing speeds of 60 & up the wind would pull on that fringe causing the clutch handle to be slightly engaged thus wearing on my clutch. My other problem I had was with the aftermarket power commander, for by passing the rev limiter. It failed causing the bike run like it had one cylinder. Once we disconnected it ran fine. Other then getting lousy gas mileage 36-38 mpg I love my R*.

Hey Jake,

There's been a lot of discussion about the mpg issue. I'm totally convinced the mileage is determined by:
1) the way the bike is being driven
2) how much weight it's packin
3) wind

I do a lot of relaxing back road riding. Usually I'm in a higher gear than most people would be in. ie. 5th when most would be in 4th. I don't go real fast on the back roads. I spend most of day doing 55 to 65 in fifth gear.

On days like this I consistently get 47+ mpg.

I recently did a trip from the coast to the Grand Canyon. Blasting down the interstate for large chunks doing 85+. With the windshield and the extra weight from gear and clothes I averaged considerably less mpg's. If I was going into a headwind going 85+ for a whole tank the gas mileage was down under 40 mpg.

Just my two cents worth, but I wonder if you did a tankful keeping the speed down and using higher gears if you wouldn't be happier with your mpg's.

Purchased my 2006 Roadie March 2007 fresh off the showroom floor for $9K all fees included as it was a holdover. I now have just over 3K miles clocked, since we just got 6 inches of snow I suspect that this may be the year end mileage count. I may have to buy some chains for her.

Got my 99 in 06 less than 10,000 miles now has 21,000 Mileage from low 40 mpg to 59 mpg depends on how fast and if two up or single best was two up and running between 60 and 65 mph open road one stop in over 93 miles and fairly steady speed. Most of the time I get over 45 and less than 50 but I like the sound of the pipes and acceleration g force. lol

06 Silverado purchased in June of 06....road yesterday in 45 degree weather and 20-30 knot winds in the D.C. area (gotta love it.. ..solid as a rock)and currently have 15276 miles on it. Hoping to catch more days as long as its above 40. I leave for work at 0400 and 45 degrees in the mid day sun is a lot different than 40 degrees in the dark before sunrise.

Here's to stealing a ride or two from old man winter.

enjoy the ride

I have about 15,500 miles on my 06. I have been blessed in that I have not had any mechanical problems or issues!!! As far as gas mileage is concerned, I typically get between 42-44 mpg.

I ride with a lot of Harley owners and my Roadstar has certainly earned their respect.
