Questions: Does Anyone Know? 4 Years, 5 Months ago
I bought a 2007 Roadie Silverado this year. The new 2008 Roadies are now Fuel Injected. Does anyone know if my 2007 can be converted to Fuel Injection? Would it be worth doing?

Advantages , Disadvantages would be welcome.

Thanks.

First off, Welcome Joe, you got yourself a great ride, and welcome to the Clinic. We have discussed that very subject, and to be frank, nobodies seen the FI model yet. Now, to be realistic, it would more than likely be a job that would cost a very high amount, and the only practical pay off would be the elimination of the choke knob, and a little more power. Yes, there are more benefits, but not enough to justify that type of undertaking. Just my opinion, of course, but enjoy what you have, it's nice. BB

I am with BB

Although not having to play with the choke may be an advantage but once warmed up.. the CV carb performs well...
I am one who prefers the CV carb...after all ...it is......the start up bonding ritual..that is a big part of the V-twin experience...

GOSH what is next... AUTOMATIC Transmission??

any chance it would help stop bikes from running so rich and increasing the possibility of SVS?

When properly jetted the bike will not run rich. Most folks are so fearful of running lean and 'ruining' their engine that they error on the rich side, which brings on more problems with this motor than running on the lean side.

Thought I'd see what the "Does anyone know?" thread title was about.
I thought maybe somebody was up to something secret.....

I'm with Doc and BB on this one, nothing wrong with a properly tuned carb as opposed to FI. FI probably increased the price of the 2008, huh?
I wouldn't doubt if it was a cost cutting measure for Yami, it seems that most companies can make electronics (EFI) way cheaper than hardware (carburetors) these days.
There was a guy that recently came into the GM dealer with a restored 1985 Chevy Silverado and ordered a "brand-new" (not rebuilt) four barrel carburetor for his truck. The guy refused to install a rebuilt jobber carb.
My brother said that the cost of this brand-new, stock spec'd QuadraJet carb from GM was over $1700.00 My brother installedthe new carb, and the truck's owner was then charged $85.00 to have the carb installed and tuned.
Coulda put a used EFI system off a wrecked '87 Silverado for much less than the cost of that carb!
Then again, the carb will still work after the truck gets struck by lightning, EFI might not.

Hey Bear,

Thanks for the welcome and the info. This an awesome site. I have been on it almost every day since I found it and joined. I already figured that the cost might out weigh the benefits, but sooner or later on this site somebody will figure it out to do it cheaper.

I LOVE my ride. I almost bought another v-star 1100, but I decided to upgrade. I am glad I did. Feels like driving a Cadillac. I am going to take some long rides this summer.

Talk to you soon,

RaiderJoe
