In my opinion they are just doing what the auto industry did to take the maintenance of your auto outta your hands because you wont be able to work on it unless you have the expensive equipment to diagnose and reprogram it thus putting the money back in their pocket to fix it...no EFI for me ...besides I love messing with my ride in my shop on rainy days when I dont ride...I know I either fixed it or ****** it up myself ...Coug

I think the FI is a tactic that Yami is using to boost sales and keep up with consumer wants.
I was talking with a car salesman friend today, and we got talking about EFI on trucks. We cam to the conclusion that through the years, especially in the mid 1980's there seemed to be a trend of engines getting more and more gutless with more pitiful fuel mileage, 1984 to 1986 gas powered pick-up trucks were pitiful when it came to economy and power. Guys were trying to put recurve kits in the distributors, and ripping off the single catalytic exhausts in desperation to get more power and economy.
THEN.... BEHOLD! The ANSWER! EFI was introduced as standard equipment on all pick-up trucks!
The dealers were using the EFI as a sales tactic claiming superior "never seen before" economy and power. The EFI trucks were snapped up like hotcakes, and sales jumped.
EFI on current motorcycles to me is kind of a band-aid approach. The motorcycle systems use a Throttle Position and Mass Airflow sensor to measure intake airflow to attempt to meter the fuel.
These systems apparently do NOT use oxygen sensors, which is the only true accurate way for a true EFI system to meter the fuel.
The O2 sensors sense the exhaust O2 content, which the computer uses to determine the exact amount of fuel needed to obtain the ideal "stochiometric ratio" of fuel and air for perfect combustion.
An ideal EFI system for a V-twin would employ these sensors,
-Manifold Absolute Pressure. (Atmospheric pressure -altitude.)
-Mass Airflow. (Amount, speed, and temperature of air.)
-Throttle Position. (Spark timing.)
-Crankshaft Position sensor. (RPM's, Injection pulse-width, and timing.)
-Separate O2 sensors on BOTH front and rear exhaust ports. (stochiometric-ratio on each cylinder.)

The way I see it, the current FI systems for motorcycles accomplish little more than the good old carburetors. The current FI systems are basically only an electronic carburetor which uses injectors instead of jets.
Until they start using dual O2 sensors in the V-Twin EFI systems, I see very little advantage to spending over $2000 to put it on my bike!
Whew! That was alot of blabbering....
Thoughts Anyone???
