E10 Gasoline 4 Years, 3 Months ago
We are seeing more and more stations selling E10 gas. In fact there are only a handfull that don't. Does anyone have any bad experiences using E10? Any suggestions? What is Yamaha's line on this for Roadies? Power? Mileage? Thanks!

Not sure what E10 means. Do you mean 10% corn? If you do then that's all I run. In Minnesota that's pretty much all you can get. Yami says 10% is OK but no more. The more corn in the gas the more your mpg goes down.

I got ahold of some with more than 10% Ethonal out west last year
and milage went down and the bike ran like crap.Power down and noisy. When I found some better gas those things went away.

I made a trip to Texas (from NC), through Louisiana and Texas (and a week of riding in Texas) the fuel I bought was E10, my mileage went from 38-40 mpg to 31-32 mpg. I thought something was wrong with my R*. When I got home I adjusted valves because it had been very noisy changed plugs etc. I guess this is something we'll have to contend with

When I went to Sturgis last August, I had a BAD boil-over problem when I was riding the mountain roads. The rep at the Yami tent in Sturgis said it was the e-10 eating away at my float needle. He said " we have been getting a lot of complaints about gas with ethonol and boil-over".

I changed the needle when I got home and no more problems. There is a number somewhere on the forum for a Suzuki ( i think) needle that is un-affected by the corn.

I still run e-10 quite a bit. Hard to always find regular. No problems though.

My 2 cents.

John

All of the E10 and E85 fuels will kill you gas mileage and HP . The enviro folks make it to be so great, I am not sold. You loose 5-10% on you MPG, you have to fill up more, thus burning more fuel...I would bet that the emissions about equal out . Just my thoughts and I will get off of my soap box now. I guess the good news for us here in GA, we don't have any around ..yet.

Interesting fact about ethanol, it takes over one gallon of petroleum to produce one gallon of ethanol. That's from corn seed to final product. Kinda makes ya scratch your head and wonder why they even bother.

Everybody is all tore up about GREENHOUSE GASES these days.
One of the biggest problem GREEENHOUSE GASES are NITROGEN OXIDES.
The higher the combustion temperature in the cylinder, the higher the Nitrogen Oxides.
Ethanol probably raises the combustion temperatures in the cylinders much higher than that of regular gasoline!
So, Why would you want to use a fuel that causes more GREENHOUSE GASES and less efficiency?
Governmental outfits like the EPA and Environment Canada are so easily swayed by all the Enviro-Freaks and whatever THEY say!!! Anything for a Money!
.....today the sky is blue... (no, it's cloudy, but nobody really knows....)
