I think we summed this same question up a couple of months ago with "it's just FUGLY" fugly, fugly, fugly, butt ugly!...I've yet to remove mine, but it's on the list to do, I've got a few parts to order in the comming week(when income tax comes in) and the removal kit is on the list along with the fuel pump relocation kit.

Re:ais removal questions 4 Years, 3 Months ago
My ridin buddies often told me that my bike did weird popping sound during decel or as Greysnake putted it, dog farting sound, and nobody knew what it was. It would seem the sound is much more audible for someone who is following me closely.

So I’m learning from this thread now that it is this Air Injection System.

So besides being an anti pollution system, does it serve other purposes, will the removal affect performance in any way and how many parts is there in the AIS Removal Kit, is it easy to install and which is the best kit around? Sorry for all these questions.

Thanks in advance.

Hey RG
The only purpose it serves is to meet EPA regs. Leaving it on or taking it off won't affect performance at all. For your bike you will have 2 plugs for the holes in the jugs and a cap for the nipple on the manifold. A lot of people used fired 45 ACP cases to plug the holes in the jugs. Barons makes a good kit.

From my research there are several companies making this kit, some in black and some in chrome. Some people are making their own kits. Looks to me that Baron's has the most complete kit, and if it's like thier other products, the directions should be strait forward and complete without being complicated. And thier kit cost less than $20.

Another thing on my to do list.

The removal instructions will be very helpful, I’m gonna print it and follow it step by step.

After removing this, is it necessary to relocate the fuel pump?

Thanks guys, you're champions.

The only thing required in removing the AIS is to take it off. You don't have to touch anything else.

Re:ais removal questions 4 Years, 3 Months ago
Is there info in the tech sections about making the plugs? dimensions, etc. I know twenty bucks to Baron's is cheap, but just curious?

Thanks,

pman

Re:ais removal questions 4 Years, 3 Months ago
I looked up the Baron site for the AIS removal kit and only found a kit that will fit 04-07 Roadies. Do they sell kits for 02 Roadies?

But searching along, I stumbled on this Night Sky Customs AIS Removal Kit for 1600 model years 1999-2003, it includes two cylinder head plugs and a vacuum cap. The plugs sets are made of billet machined from high grade domestic Kaiser Aluminium. I would have thought steel would be preferable for that kind an application. Does some of you folks happens to know this Night Sky kit and is aluminium ok or am I worrying to much.

Thanks.
