Adjusting the rear spring preload 4 Years, 3 Months ago
I read the tech article on replacing the spring, how easy is it to just adjust the preload? I'm not even sure how to get to the spring to do it. Would help stiffen the rear end?

JW, take a look in the owners manual on page 3-14 and 3-15. They had mine set from the factory on the softest setting, now I set it on the hardest setting. Big difference , drag much less , and ride quality was not changed (enough to notice , for me anyhow). Shock is horizontal right in front of the rear tire , took me maybe 15-20 to adjust it to where I wanted. Hope this helps. BB

Thanks, I had looked at the manual. I will go out and look at the bike and see how tough to get to it is. Mine has to be on a soft setting also.

I'm 240. It sits down about 1 1/2" when I sit on it. Bounce a little and it will bottom out. The wife only comes in at 110 lbs, but I'm sure we will be hitting then.

Well , the Short answer is yes. I'm running forwards , and when I first put them on , I had more touchdowns on my exhaust pipe than the Patriots did on Sunday afternoons. Tightened it to "Maximum distance" , and noticed a difference immediately. I would do it again , and for big guys or those riding two up , I think it's worth doing. BB

You big guys should think about getting stiffer spring ... 900 or 1000 lb if you still have problems.

Is it difficult to replace? What one would you suggest? I am about 240 and the wife around 110. I havent rode the bike yet, waiting for winter to break so I don't know how bad it will drag. Trusting your opinions.

Getting my 850 - 1200 lb progressive springs put on tomorrow.
