Cleaning White Walls 5 Years, 11 Months ago
Just finished thoroughly cleaning my 2005 Road Star yesterday and the biggest pain is cleaning the white wall tires. I used soap and water and got the bad stuff with a brillo pad. I've used the Westley's Bleche-White in the past on my cars and bought a bottle specifically for cleaning the motorcycle tires but noticed a warning on the bottle that it shouldn't be used on motorcycle tires. Anybody know why that is?

Hi Pday,

Just a suggestion, I use Mr.Clean Magic Eraser. They are sponges with some amazing cleaner. My whitewalls look like new and no residue so no worries about slick tires.

Not sure this would be real great idea Topher, but if you have a process or method you use to clean your whitewalls, I would sure like to get it for the Tech Tips section.

For guys who have never done it, if you have a method that reduces it to steps and speeds up a normal cleaning process, would you consider penning out an article about it for the Tech Tips section?

That's weird They're both rubber based.

Not familiar with the product. Does it make the tire more 'slipperly'?

I don't know, Doc. I was thinking like you that if it was ok for a car tire it ought to be ok for a motorcycle. The only thing that troubled me was this -- if the manufacturer who's trying to sell this stuff tells you not to use it, there must be something to it! I've read on some other forums that people do use it on their motorcycle tires and they say they use it sparingly and make sure it doesn't get on the tread but I'm reluctant to use it without knowing what the real problem is!

probably the fact that most motorcycle tires are on aluminum rims and the white wall is so close... I used bleach white for a while and I've noticed some pitting on my back rim d/t the fact I can't get in there very well... I have to double up the using the magic eraser... that is the bomb ... it works fantastic for cleaning the white walls... never go back to anything else! ~Guido

If a manufacture says not to use on a motocycle tire it`s because of it being slippery if it get down on the tread portion.Armoral has a warning not to use on motorcycle seats or tires Don`t want your honey slippin off doya
Plan on my next set of tires to be white wall to keep with my classic theme. Can anybody tell me the widest and best performer in white walls?

Post edited by: vegasdave, at: 2006/06/19 20:12

I HAVE USED WESLEYS ON MY TIRES AND HAVENT HAD ANY PROBLEMS, ( I AM CONSTANTLY SCRAPING MY FLOOR BOARDS) NO SLIP OR SLIDE. I ALSO USE STP SON OF A GUN ON MYTIRES AFTER CLEANING THEM. aM VERY VERY CAREFUL TO NOT GET IT ON THE TREAD. I SPRAY IT ON AN APPLICATOR SPONGE THEN APPLY TO THE TIRE. i JUST PURCHASED A MOTORCYCLE JACK FROM PEP BOYS ($69.95 WITH A $20.00 REBATE) MAKES IT MUCH EASIER TO CLEAN THEM. MY PROBLEM IS HOW TO CLEAN THE SPOKES ESPECIALLY THE REAR TIRE AS I HAVE PRETTY BIG SADDLE BAGS .
