Question for doc 5 Years, 11 Months ago
doc, what all suspension mods do you have on your bike? I know you've said it here before but I'm not positive. I feel like you've got the 6 degree trees, with 4 inch tube extensions, and the backhalf you lowered the way of the fatbike mod on the tech tips. Is this correct? Also how does your bike ride? is it squirrely (sp?) or does it ride nice and straight and comfortable?

I'm about to dismantle my bike entirely to get it ready to go to paint, and while I have everything off I'm thinking about doing the rear fatbike lowering mod and possibly the front, just trying to get some info first

Front - 6 degrees in the trees, stock neck, 4" fork extensions.

Back - not flipped, stock dogbones, 900 lb spring.

With just the raked trees, the bike sat about 1.5" lower at the front floorboard bolt. I found this setup too 'squirrely' or the bike felt 'nervous'. Lowering the back would have helped but I can't do it 'cause I've modified the frame and the fender would rub on the tire. I also found I was dragging the crap out of my forward controls so that's another reason I did not want to lower the back.

Two inch fork extensions would have leveled the frame out. I put on 4" ones to get the front up a bit which puts my trail to about stock. The bike now rides like stock; steady at all speeds.

The turning circle is the increased a bit which makes it more difficult to do those curb to curb U-turns.

Low is nice but you'll sacrifice speed in corners.
