jetting 4 Years, 2 Months ago
I put some cobra boulevard slip on pipes on my 05 roadstar, sounds real good but I'm getting some deceleration backfire. will removing the AIS help rid this? and will I have to re-jet if I remove or plug it?

Slip on pipes are real good for getting air leaks where the silp ons connect to the header pipes. That would cause your problem. Taking the AIS off might help to. Won't hurt. No jetting needed.

Ok is there any way to plug the AIS without taking it off? and what could I do to eliminate exhaust leakage with the slip ons?

I disabled the AIS by plugging the rubber hoses that feed the cylinders with silicone, and plugging the hose to the intake with a solid piece of plastic off one of my kids toys (golf tee will work too). It took about 15 minutes to remove and 'fill' the hoses. I let the silicone set up and then gave it a test by trying to blow through the hose. Install was about 5 minutes. Same result as full removal, and easy to reverse by removing the silicone from the tubes with solvent.

Thanks man, that sounds pretty straight forward. where exactly do the lines run that need to be plugged?

I have an '03, so it may be slightly different.
The left side of the cylinder heads have an elbow fitting that runs as a hard line toward the front of the bike, as the line approaches the AIS canister a rubber hose is clamped on and connects to the AIS canister. The one from the rear cylinder is about 5 inches, the one from the front is about 3 inches. The hose to the intake comes off the top of the canister and runs up and under the tank.
Check out the TECH ARTICLES tab and put 'AIS removal' into the search. That will give you a good idea what you are looking for.
