If you need the part number, it is 5VN-85752-01-00 (replaces 5VN-85752-00-00). It costs around $65 at the dealer...

Re:fuel light in dash flashing 4 Years, 2 Months ago
You guys are great! Thanks!

The green plug is connected, didn't touch it. Any other ideas? So you think I need a new part? What's involved in replacing it? Anyone done this before?

The LEDs I connected were a 2 x 24 light red flexible array (mounted under the saddlebags), rear round reflector led conversion, front reflector led conversion. This is in addition to about 5 (step/courtesy) lights that I put on about 2 years ago (this is the wire I tapped into this past weekend) and a Kuryakyn fender eagle with lighted eyes that I put on a few weeks ago. This wire is connected to a switch installed on the left battery side cover, which is then connected to the battery directly, its running all of these lights. No problem with the lights, they all work from the switch and I'm not getting electrocuted when I ride with them on .

Running separately directly to the battery is a Kuryakyn Infinity Streamliner (lights on a hypercharger cover). The switch is mounted on the back of the frame on the right side behind the rider seat.

I know leds don't draw a lot of power (though the eagle is a little bulb, not led). I hope I'm not overloading the battery.

I have some large halogen silver bullets that I picked up from ebay that I want to mount to my engine guard and I want to add a cobra lightbar as well eventually and a few more running lights (amber button lights on the battery side covers and a 2 x 6 inch (40 light (each) led array to the floorboards). I want to eventually pull the 5 led lights that I mounted previously, and replace with a Kuryakyn Lizard Light Maximus set, connected to the streamliner.

I will probably get a 3 way switch mounted on the handlebars, 1 for the added running lights including the eagle, the reflector conversions and the bag lights and all other LEDs, 1 for the silver bullets and 1 for either the lizard lights or the future lightbar (may connect it directly to the running lights). Turning my bike into a christmas tree (going to call it Star-Lite ). Asking a lot of my little battery, eh? WDYT? Sorry if I gave too much info.

My first concern is getting this fuel gauge problem resolved. WDYT?

well you certainly have added some extra electrics... did it do this before you put all the lights on...probably need to go back thru and see if something is loose..unplug the green connector and spray a little WD in it and hook it back..

Re:fuel light in dash flashing 4 Years, 2 Months ago
I connected the lights on Saturday. I was low on fuel (really), when I took it for a quick 1/2 mile ride Saturday, though I don't think the fuel light was on then). On Sunday, I rode it to take a movie back to the store (the light was steady at this time), I put gas in it after that, but when I did that and restarted the bike, it started blinking in 8 flash cycles. I disconnected the negative terminal to my bike for a few minutes, reconnected it, and it looked like it was ok, except my fuel gauge needle only showed a little over 3/4 tank, even though it was full. This lasted a whole minute or two after I started my bike, than it started acting up again. I disconnected the negative terminal last night all night. No luck this morning.

I will try the WD thought, but I didn't touch that wire.

Well I don't have any personal experience with that problem, but the wd will help eliminate one potential cause like corroded contacts in the plug..check the wireing also, especially where it goes into the plug, as you had to take the tank off to put the lights under it..Blackroadie had his fuel sensor go bad and had to replace it.. might want to pm him and see if he can help you out...but check the other things first...

pull the tank? no didn't do that. Just fished the wires under the tank on both sides and pulled the slack (though not too tight).

You could try disconnecting the lights from the power source and see if it makes a difference.

had that thought too. I pulled positive connection for these lights off the battery. No luck.

Fuel sender testing instructions:

• Disconnect the fuel sender coupler from
the wire harness.
• Drain the fuel from the fuel tank, remove
tank and remove the fuel sender from the fuel
tank.
• Connect the pocket tester (x10 ohms) to the
fuel sender coupler.
Tester positive probe on green wire
Tester negative probe on black/blue wire
• Measure the fuel sender resistance.
Fuel sender resistance
Full position of the float
11 ~ 13 ohms at 20 °C (68 °F)
Empty position of the float
140 ~ 143 ohms at 20 °C (68 °F)

Hope this helps
