My '05 makes the same type ticking noise once the oil gets hot. My other air cooled V twins do this to, along with a lot of other noise, it is a slight rocker tap. Due to being air cooled and no water jacket to absorb noise, you may here slight mechanical noises from time to time. Of course you should get them checked out for your own piece of mind. I've got 9800 miles on the bike with the ticking noise since day one with no problems.

Buddy~
I picked up a 99 Roadie this year as well but was used to the top end noise due to riding this beautie in the past. One thing I did do was after reading through the forum (thanks all for the oil recommendations), I switched over to the new Mobil 1 V-Twin 20-50 Synthetic and a Supertech Oil Filter. It has quited down the top end ticking. I still notice it in the hotter weather but no where near what it used to be when my buddy was running the Yamahalube 20-40. It's not a cheap oil change (around $8/qt here @ Autozone & $3 for the filter @ Walmart) but it's worth it for peace of mind, knowing I'm running the best my money can buy. Just a thought for ya!
