Local Dealership Rip Off 7 Months, 3 Weeks ago
Went to my local dealership to get new exhaust gaskets. While I was there I asked how much they would charge to install a new spring and lowering kit if I provided all the parts. I just wanted them to do the labor. They said they will not install anything thats not purchased from them, which I guess is understandable. Not sure if other shops are the same way. I asked how much they would charge for the job, which they never gave me a price on anything I asked. I asked if they could tell me how much the parts would be to purchase from them and they just sat on their stool and said I don't know. I asked if they could look it up for me and they said "I don't know". I told them that I had found a spring on cruisercustomizing for around $75. They said that was way too cheap. Then some other customer said he paid $800 for his. Then they finally said, "well if we had to guess the new spring will cost you $400-$600 plus installation" Sorry for the rant and you would think I would learn not to go back there but with gas as high as it is, it is just much cheaper to purchase things like exhuast gaskets from them rather than driving an hour across stateline to get it. You would think that with as much money as we as customers spend on purchasing their products they would be much nicer and willing to help out there customers. Especially since its in Auburn, which really isn't that big of a city. Hope noone else always gets the runaround that I seem to get. Its just aggrivating. Thanks for listening to my rant.

Michael

Yamaha, Honda, The supermarket, gas stations, restaurants, its like this anywhere you go now. People just dont care. People from my generation and the generation after me are mostly lazy and dont care. Only a small percentage actually work and try to do things the way our fathers did. In a nutshell the country has went to heck in a hand basket.

Man, they really were hoping you'd bend over on that one! I looked into having my local dealer replace the spring for me. He even suggested that I get the spring myself so I make sure to get the one I wanted. He told me that the cost would be one hour shop time. I've been told by guys who've done the spring replacement that it's easy enough to do it yourself. CruiserCustomizing has a Barons spring compression tool that you can buy for around $45 to do it yourself. Looney will rent you a tool for $40 that's fully refunded on return of the tool, just shipping costs to incur I believe.

I got a rip off quote from the Dealer as well. They quoted me $300 for a spring (not progressive)and said that the labour would also be around that mark...

So I bought a progressive spring from the net and had it installed by a local bike mechanic for $60 which included a back tyre change..

It pays to shop around and these Owner/mechanics/small shop are, in my opinion, the best..!

The attitude that you witnessed sadly is NOT just in your country but in mine as well,
This next generation just DONT want to work hard but take the inheritance early..

Anyways thats my rant for the day..

Unfortunately the majority of people who buy bikes have no interest in working on them or finding out how things work. They want to ride them and have someone else fix it when something breaks or they want to add some doodad. So the dealers have plenty of suckers to overcharge and lie to. They really won't miss a ticked off customer or two. They would rather have you out of their face. You are upsetting their easy little cash cow. My opinion anywho.
