Don't use RT's Cycle in Fort Oglethorpe GA 7 Months, 3 Weeks ago
I had RT's jet my bike. When i went to pick it up they said "You will be happy with this because it is smooth!" so I trailered it home. Liked to have never got it started the next day. Then it would run for 100 yards and die. It would take 3-4 minutes of turning over before it would start. Road 1 mile down the road and back. My battery was almost dead time I got back home. Each time I would have to start it, it would backfire (extremely loud) once or twice. Took it back. Picked it up a week later. Again said it was fine they found the problem (clogged jet) and fixed it. Still didnt run right. Backfire, pop, crack, engine dieing, etc. Within 100 miles the bottom pipe turned color. Took it back a couple more times, still doesn't run right and of course they found other things that was "wrong" with the bike although it ran great when I dropped it off the first time. The owners response was, "You can't jet a bike without making the pipes turn color." He gave me half a tube of Flitz polishing compound and told me that was all he would do. Bottom line NEVER EVER use RT's Cycle.

Anyone got any suggestions? The Flitz didn't work.

Sorry to hear about your ex-stealership problems. My experience in the past with exhaust problems has been to just change'em out. I wasted too much time and effort trying to fix such problems then I did riding. Didn't even get 100 miles b4 my new pipes started turning on me.

You need to fix the running issues first. Otherwise it will just happen again.

Since the dealer did the jetting ...it's probably running so rich you could run 2 R* off the same carb. They almost always jet rich! When I did just a pipe switch with the stock airbox, all they told me was I would have to rejet with a 190 main and a 40 pilot! What a joke. Funny how problems show up ONLY when you park them in a stealership shop. Clogged jet! my arse...you mean they didnt look at them before they installed them?? Or did the dirt just come thru the fuel line at the exact same time they installed the jets. Good luck gettin' her right. Can you jet yourself?? Best thing you could do, or have a friend that knows how. B.T.W. .. and remember the Yamaha motto.. The customer is always..the reason for the problem.

pfouts,
Don't know how far you are from Fort Og., But I just did a search for cycle repair in that area and man, oh man...! It looks like you're in cycle shop heaven!
From the info on their webside The Hogs Pen really looks promising... (And not just for H.O.G.s either.) They look like they have great rates!
Good luck though... and get that thang taken care of soon... Ridin' weather is here!

Take it to another shop or jet it yourself.

What kind of pipes are you trying to 'clean up'? Where?

roadhouse motoclassic slip on..they are turned from about 1-2 inches from the tip for about 18 inches..im seriously thinking about painting on teh turned area "Compliments of RT Cycle."

I almost took it to hogs pen instead of the dealer but he works during the day and runs his shop at night..from what i understand he has about a week turnaround (That would have been a blessing in hind site) but i figured the dealer would "Stand behind their work" Now I know RT's is a ripoff and the competency level of the service dept SUX

Somebody help me out. The dealer screwed the bike up so i figure i cant break it..im gonna try it myself. I have roadhouse motoclassic exhaust slip ons...i want to run it with baffles out but will run it with them in just to get it to run correct...the dealer last told me he took my cobra jet kit out and went back to factory jets..the only change from factory is that he said he put a washer on one of the jets as a spacer...runs like crap...pop and crack and backfire ocassionally...very cold natured...it will frequently loose power almost like it run out of gas..i can let off the throttle and coast for a second or two and then roll back on throttle and it smooths out...what do i need to do...im ready to try it myself...im pretty good with my hands and tools but dont know a whole about carbs so im up for suggestions...AIS is removed...

i think im right in that i have to take the tank off to get to the carb to fiddle with the jets???? also if i do screw something up with jetting is there the possibility that will screw something else more costly up?

thanks
Perry
