AIS Removal Completed Successfully 4 Years, 1 Month ago

Thanks to the encouragement of this website and the great directions, I removed my AIS and installed the removal kit. Now I have some questions:

1) After AIS removal, should the bike 'Sound or Act" differently?

The bike seems OK but I am noticing a change in Sound. It seems when I hit a certain RPM on the engine that a rattle occurs. Everything is bolted down tight. Any Ideas?

I rode it all day today without any issues except the new sound.

Has anyone experienced this after removing their AIS?

On the side note, it looks excellent without all that garbage in the front end.

Couple of things that Rattle on a Road Star. 1. upper belt guard , 2. stuff in and around the headlight bucket. Check those areas to see if that is not your mystery rattle. And yes , you loose the chirping noise that the AIS put off, so the sound is different. BB

Taking it off should make zero difference in how the bike runs and shouldn't make any new noises. Did you take the tank off? If you did did you remember to tighten up the bolt at the seat end of the tank? Easy to forget.

Yes, the first thing I checked was my work. I went back to make sure everything I touched was nice and tight. I will check the Lights, now that you mention it, The lens in my passing light moves back and forth while riding. It seems like its tight in the case but I notice that it moves back and forth and I can't tighten the screw any more. I will check that first thing in the morning. Also, This is the first time I worked on the bike to take off the tank, etc. I found it very easy to work with. The R* seems like it's wrench friendly.

Thanks all for your input. I'll let you know if I still have issues after tomorrow.

RJ,

Glad to hear you were successful on the AIS removal. I have the same issue with my lights. Let me know if you find a permanent fix.

Mine do it too. I've heard putting tape between the lens and housing, like a kind of a gasket, could work, a drop of Loctite (blue), double sticky tape, etc. could work too. Haven't tried any of it though.

RE-head light rattle, I went to a DIY/Hardware store and bought some rubber tubing ( very thin) and glued it inside the light, works really well, but you'll have to experiment with different thickness before you get it right. And just use a small bit in a few areas, you wont get it all the way round the light
One old trick I used on my harley was draft excluder tape, any place that sells doors and windows will sell it by the roll
