Pilot Jet 4 Years, 1 Month ago
Hi Guys

Snowing here in Seattle Sucks

I went to the dealerto get a 37.5 Pilot jet for my roadie

He said I wouldn't feel a differance and said that I alrady had a 50 in it

I said bo i have a 35 he said he has a roadie him self and that I am wrong

He also said I have a 165 main stock and i told him no I have a 182.5

so he looked it up and said ohhh you are right

so he had a 40 pilot and said give it a shot he says he runs a 50 in his

well anyway justthought I would share my experiance with a yamaha employee who owns a roadie

and doesn't know much about it

anyone out there run a 40 pilot on a 1700 with mods , I will install it tommarow and share the results

hope for nice weather and be safe

My dad was on a ride with about 20 other bikes and they came to a red light at a highway on ramp you know to stagger traffic

well one guy in the pack wasnt paying attention and plowed right into my dad , he was on his Vrod and then they guys pick turned and plowed into another riders bike

My dads rear rider peg was out and ripped a huge gash in the other riders leg from the knee back and shatters his leg my dad jumped up and picked up his own bike and than went to help his friend

next day my dad went to the hospital and found out his leg was broken from the impact

and that thier is still flesh on his bike from his riend

dont mean to bum anyone out but we all need to be aware of all our surrondings even when riding in a pack

Take care

Sorry about your dad. The only thing I know about the 40 pilot or the 37.5 is that most people go back to the 35 because of bad milage. I ran the 37.5 like i was instructed to when I changed my pipes and airbox but went right back to the 35 when I saw the big difference in gas milage. And I couldnt tell any difference with the 37.5 either. As far as the dealer saying thiers a 50 in there.... When you pull a Mik.35 out and read it.....the stamping kinda looks like it says 50. Thats what I thought too, first time I opened my carb. Unless he put it in himself....if he did he might as well be driving his car. I think the bigger pilots come into play when you start doing gut work to the R*. I didnt read your bike setup yet...maybe you do have internal work done on your bike. If not, I dont think you'll see any difference with the swap except less m.p.g.'s.

Sorry to hear about your Dad's accident.

I can't stress strongly enough that what other folks are running is a good starting point for your carb. In the end, the carb may need to be tweak for your particular conditions.

I found that changing out pipes it may be necessary to change out the pilot. Again it all depends on your bike, riding conditions, temperature, elevation, etc.

I never discuss my bike with the dealer employees ... they seem to know everything and it makes me fell inadequate.

Wow Spence!!!,

Sorry to hear about your dad. Tough break I have ridden with a few that weren't paying attention.

Hope you get the carb figured out, you will find the right combination.
