That's what I was thinking too Doc. That's why I thought turning to reserve might get a little more pressure. There would be more gas pushing down on reserve than when not on reserve. Wish I had tried it before I filled up with gas. But I have just printed out the instructions for the gas cap vent and am off to the garage.

The pressure differential is measured as the difference between the top of the fuel in the tank and the top of the fuel in the bow.

The only time time the reserve comes into play is then the fuel level in the tank is just at the top of the tube. In that case when accelerating, fuel may get into the tube. I had something like this happen to me yesterday. Accelerated off the ramp and after an extended run into traffic, my engine started to stutter. I was also running with the fuel light on.

That is what I was thinking too Doc. I wondered if turning to reserve would create more gravity push and solve the problem. Wish I had thought about that when riding.

I just finished the cap venting, really great instructions. Also read some of the comments after the instructions. Some guys were having dents sucked in their gas tanks. That means the tank vent doesn't work. I checked mine and there is just a little hole in the vent. Fifty pound monofilament fishing line would just go in the hole and it only went in 1 1/2 inches.

So does the tank vent really work? Why did they put the rubber plugs in cap vent holes?

How did you do that whole set-up without the pump?

You cannot feed the line through the vent hole as the exit inside the tank is on the side of the vent tube not at the end.

I did not want to vent my cap so I drilled my vent tube out to create a larger orifice. I straightened the tube and drilled completely through. Much less likely to plug up.

The rubber plugs you pull out when you vent the gas cap. Why didn't the factory guys leave the rubber plugs out? Then the gas tank would be vented enough.

In case of an accident , they (Yamaha) don't want fuel spilling on the rider. BB
