dyna 3000? 5 Years, 10 Months ago
|
|
road* 03 i have ported manifold, kury twin velocity, hard krome 2 3/4" big straights. Would like to add a little more umph with out going into engine now. So dyna 3000 or Revmaster and should I expect to feel the difference of added performance with rev limiter?
Thanks Johan57

Without engine mods the Revmaster is sufficient enough. Not much left above the rev limit so don't expect too much.
If you intend on doing the engine in the future then go with the 3000.
And put on a 32 or a 31 tooth front pulley. You notice a difference.

thanks for the info Doc. will the revs from 4200 to 5000 with a limiter really add any extra umph at this time? Did you mean that there is not much change from stock limit to 5000 limit without internal mods?.
thanks Johan57

No .... you don't get much umph 'cause if you look the HP/Torque curves for the stock 03 it's running out of steam at 4200.
If you like to wring it out all the time then the rev limit increase gives you a little more time before you have to shift.
If you add the smaller front pulley then it helps in the lower gears as you don't need to shift as soon if you're dragging someone.
If you're going to do internal mods then go with the 3000 as it will allow you to change the timing to optimize performance.

I have an 04 Road* with ported manifold, speedstar valve springs, speedstar
2 into 1 header, Dyna 3000 set at 34a 6000 RPM. I put it on a dyno and it
pulled hard with little drop off up to 5200 RPM. I have heard that with
stock valve springs don't go over 5500 RPM.

Cams and valve timing have alot to do with where your torque curve is on a truck motor. Do they make different cams for Roadies for people that like to wind-on-it to those high racing RPM's? You may want to check if any if are available , and try that route if you want more torque higher up, ...you also have to remember that a Roadie is built for low-end torque and has a LONG stroke for a bike motor, subsequently this may limit the speed at which the motor will pull hard, as it can't inhale and exhale as fast as a short-stroke racing engine.
