What exhaust system are you running? 4 Years, 1 Month ago

Yeah, I know. Everybody likes something different. I'm just looking for some sort of consensus, I guess. The stock pipes aren't doing it for me. I'm not really concerned that much about performance at this point. The bike runs just fine. But I'd like a little more low range rumble. On the other hand, i don't want to annoy the neighbors or cops. Also, I'm not sure I want to take it so far that I have to re-jet anything. I'm tip-toeing in on this deal. Soooo, a little feedback please. Are you running:
1. Stock
2. Stock with mods
3. Cobra
4. V&H
5. Hard Krome
6. Other (specific and why)
Also, are you running slip-ons or a complete system.
AND if you had to do the whole re-jet thing just how much of a pain in the tail was that?
Inquiring minds and all that . . .
Thanks.

It was #4 for me. V&H pro pipe. Why? More power , deep rumble , good looks. And NO , pipes alone Do Not require a rejet. BB

I went the route of #6, and the "other" for me was Samson Slip-on Ovals. My main influence was the cost, as I wanted something with more grunt than the stock exhaust but wasn't ready to spend much more than $200. Also, I wasn't very knowledgeable in what was available for the R*. I found them on ebay (search Samson Roadstar).
They work great with the stock airbox and stock jetting. As everyone will tell you on here, you don't have to rejet unless you are changing out the stock airbox. Personally, when I put them on I found that the bike was "freed up" and felt more responsive.
As for the sound, I personally love it. It has a "softer" edge to the sound than slashcut tips. I haven't had any complaints from my neighbours on the sound level either. There's another thread previously on them here if you're interested.

Cobra lowboy shotguns. Same here, no rejet untill I changed the airbox. Not to loud as you roll into it easy or just cruising. But when you open it up you will let people hear ya for a mile or so. And if you ever do the airbox , and have to rejet...its easy. I've never messed with a bike carb until now. Once I did it the first time, it's a piece of cake. No harder than changing plugs, just a little more time. Now I do it with the carb on the bike.

We need exhaust on these bikes. Shoot no wonder my neighbors complain and here me coming from 3-miles away. I guess I should stop running with just the header pipes. Aw man just kidding . Actually I run the Cobra 2" Drag Pipes with no baffles. They are very loud . If you do not like them to loud you can leave the full baffles in them and they sound nice. If you want pretty loud then cut them in half. If you want loud then cut them down to 3". I ran all three ways for awhile but for the past year I have been running no baffles. I did change jets after I drilled the stock airbox (poormans BAK) and put in a K&N Filter. Hey you could always go stage-1 through stage-3 trying out the sound after each one. Only downfall is your stock pipes are then history and you will not have nothing too fall back on if you get a fix it ticket.Take Care and God Bless Ride Safe Brother OSO

Hard Krome Dual Sideburners. Why? Like the looks and I got them on Ebay at a great price!!! Oh yeah, and they sound awesome!! Prior to these, I was running Roadhouse 65 Special Slip-Ons. Why? An affordable way to make the bike sound better and gain a little performance....
As for rejetting; If you read the tech tips regarding carbs and rejetting (and scour the internet for info on motorcycle carbs)and get a basic understanding of how things work, along with the help you'll get here, it's really not all that bad. I think (for me anyway) the important thing to know before rejetting and adjusting the carb, is to understand what each part (circuit) of the carb does and how changes to a specific circuit are going to effect performance. And it's a lot of trial and error!!
More info than what you wanted I'm sure. The only reason I mention it is because until a year ago you couldn't have paid me to mess with a carberuator. But for the reasons mentioned above, my "fear" of carbs is gone.

Aaron

Bub's Big Willy's with the 2" baffles... They were on the bike when I bought it. Not TOO loud but a very good tone. I've heard some others that are just an obnoxious sound but these sound good.
My only complaint with them is the chrome on the tips is flaking a bit.
