Memphis Fats Windshield 5 Years, 10 Months ago
Just installed a Memphis Fats 17" windshield on my 2002 Roadie. Do I have to live with the new "shakes" this bike has developed or does anyone have a "fix"? I think that the mounting points behind and above the headlight are too weak to stand up to any type of speed above 25 mph. Do I need to reinforce?

I have the tallest windshield Yamaha makes and it only becomes a problem at
about 110 mph. So theres something wrong there for sure!

I've had Memphis fats 21's on my last 2 bikes and never had a shake. Are you sure you have everything mounted and tightened down correctly? If you do then I would contact Memphis and tell them what's going on.

Yeah, I double checked everything. Been turning wrenches for about 16 years now. I have adjusted the height and angle and just can't take away the "vision blurs" at about 60. The Memphis Fats mounting system sure seems weak. Maybe I should have stuck with OEM. You get what you pay for.

I have the memphis 17" and have no problems with the window shaking, but do get a lot of buffetting without lowers. Which causes sunglasses or helmet to shake. But I have installed lowers which has cured that. I would not recomend to memphis lowers, unless you just use the hardware and make or have bigger glass made. I run high speeds all the time and dont have problems with the window shaking. The main thing I like about the memphis is it is easy to remove.

Hello floresrl,

I just installed a 21" Memphis Fats on my 03 Roadstar today... and had no problems. Took it out and hit about 100 to test it... did fine.

I would suggest that you check the spacers in the three Headlight mounts.. make sure they didnt get knocked out... without those, you wouldnt have much stability.

Also. are you attempting to ride looking through the shield, or over the top of it. Typically, you want the top of the shield just below your line of vision.. too much distortion other wise.

let us know if you find the issue...

Thanks everyone for the advice. I spent a few more hours adjusting height and angle,, then riding until I got the best result. Just got back from a 297 mile ride and really enjoyed the windshield stopping the butterflies instead of my chest or helmet visor. Butterflies are especially heavy this year in central texas. One of you suggested I install lowers but not Memphis Fats lowers. What do you suggest?
