New SS Cables and Brake Lines 5 Years, 4 Months ago
So as not to Hijack the other previous post, I am looking in to the Magnum Sterling Chromite brand. Nice stuff but like many manufacturers, they currently discriminate against Metrics (at least for brake lines). Wondering if any have already done the homework as I will have to order modular lines and fittings so everything matches. Want to go 3" over on the upper but lower lines will be stock length. rough measure (line only) is 18" for lowers, and 20" for upper and then add 3".
Anynone have actual lengths for stock lines? and what is the proper name of the lower fitting between the 2 lower lines. site pics don't seem to show that fitting. Any info will be a reat help as I gotta get this stuff on order so I can at least get the front back together Got too many jobs going at one time and will feel better if I get at least one or two finished.

Post edited by: JJsNet, at: 2007/01/08 11:31

When I get home I measure the stock lines (they're hanging on the garage wall )

I'll also check the fittings for the MC and front caliper.

Are you also putting SS to the back brake? I've also done that but I used two lines with a brake pressure sensor halfway. There's a pic of it on my site.

haven't decided on the back yet. With the floorboard extensions I was still able to get enough that I still hava a little radius at the caliper, and the black blends in to the frame. I do want to replace the reservoir and sleeve the line, and find a little more subtle master cylinder cover than I have seen

You can put the rear MC behind the right side cover.

Upper front brake line = 23" (banjo center to center)
Lower front brake line = 20"

The Yamaha banjos have unique curves to them which you will not be able to match up with universal fittings.

I looked at the Magnum site and they have universal brake lines with AN-3 fittings, female ends.

They don't seem to sell universal fittings. You will need to get 10 MM banjos and 3/8 x 24 banjo bolts (don't reuse the OEM green ones ).

You can get whatever brand is available to you but you can check here for examples ..... Russell

You other option is to buy a ready made set of another brand name. You can check here for options ... cables

You can also buy a chrome rear MC for about $150.

Barnett has the stainless steel braided, clear-coated cables for the Yamaha. They were the innovators and have stainless steel braided and platinum steel braided. Why not use a company who has been doing this for 60 years?
Any lengths can be made up. Want to put a Harley lever on? No problem, tell them and they change the fitting at the top. Why someone wants to put Harley controls on is beyond me but some guys do.
