Re:Yamaha Raider 4 Years, 1 Month ago
Paid a visit to my dealer yesterday... (I feel lucky 'cause I like the guys there and they see to have a clue...) While I was there the conversaton got around to the Raider...
So, the service manager asked me if I wanted to see what a totaled Raider looked like... (Of course my first question was...) Is it really messy? He said, "the girl that was driving it hit a patch of gravel at "walking speed" and the front end locked up on her..." and, "all she did was lay it down hard..."
I walk out back and here's a dusty Raider with only 300 Mi. on it with a "ding" in the Tank (about the size of a kiwi...) some scratches in the front fender and a broken front brake lever... The Yami crash/road bar was bent on the right side and the right shock and headlight had some minor road scuffs...
As I'm scratching my noggin and trying t ofigure out how the bike could be "totaled" by the insurance company... Bill (the service manger) pointed to the right side turning lock... I was sheared off! and that allowed the steering to turn wlmost 80 degrees to the right...
So, me, being me... said... Why don't you drill it, tap it, and fit it with a new block? And, Bill said... no can do... the Insurance company said... "New Frame!"... It's not machinable... (To me it looked like a cast aluminum or other cast "pot metal"... I was floored!

Hmmmm... wonder how hard it would be to fit that drivetrain into a Roadie frame.. or even a custom frame?
