Passing Lamps Dead 7 Months, 1 Week ago
Okay, all of the sudden my passing lamps have decided they don't want to work. There is a switch on one side of the left lamp which I normally turn off when cranking the bike. Once it is running I switch it back on. Anyway, today I switched it on and no lights. Loose wire? Fuse? Beats the heck out of me. Am I missing something (other than light) here?

could be either one of those things you mention. check the fuse first at that's the easiest. after that open the light w/ the switch and check connections. I never turn mine off unless by accident when I'm washing the bike. If you have an ok battery then it should be able to handle it even when cranking.

Mine done the same thing, I pulled into the service station one day and noticed in the glass window my reflection only had a headlight and no driving lights.

When I tugged on the bundle of wires going into the headlight bucket they came on. So when I got home I removed the headlight and seen where the black wire comes from the driving lights into the headlight bucket and ties into the black headlight main wire. It had came loose from vibration I assume, I snugged the wires up, made sure the driving lights were working and retaped the wires, and no more problems.

Good luck

I thought that if the lamps are wired correctly they shouldn't come on until the bike is started. That's the way mine works.

My driving lights are wired to the headlight, so when I turn on my switch all the lights are on. But I do have a on/off switch on the mount, so I can turn them on or off.

07's work that way. Early bikes don't

If they are on the headlight fuse and the headlight works then the fuse is not the problem. If they have their own fuse then that might be it. A bad switch or a loose conection will do it. They are usually wired to either the high or low beam, not both; try the other beam.

If your lamps are new and they are the sealed beam, I would check behind the right lamp. (As you're sitting on the bike...) When I installed my passing lampsthe black, or ground lead was "clipped" on the terminal but not secured with the screw... so eventually the terminal clip worked loose and the lamp failed to light...

The switch has been known to have fragile connections. The wires break pretty easy. Check for any rubbed wires where the wires come out of the bar and go into the lights too.
