Oil Weight? 5 Years, 9 Months ago
|
|
|
Hello, I have yet another Oil Question Concerning the wieght of the oil. Not interested in opening the bag of worms cercening type or brand.
I have 6K on my bike and am going to switch to a synthetic.
10w40, 20w40, etc??
out of curiosity- I have always heard that once you switch to synthetic you cannot go back (not that I would want to). Is there truth to that?

I've always ran 20/50 and it's worked great. In colder weather the bike needs a longer warm up time but that's all. I don't know about going from syn to dino. Never thought about doing it.

Unlike the often used saying you can switch back to dino if you wish. But I don't know why one would.
The weight depends on what ambient temps you usually run. Check the manual for the recommended ranges.
On the other hand, you are limited in your choices.
I've used various grades. I found at the wide range, 5W50, the bike was too noisy for me. I run 15W50 and I'm satifisfied with its performance.

Thanks, I had planned on using 20/50, I live in SW Okla. So ambient temp usually warmer. But I can alway drop weight if need. By the way, Nope did not plan on switching back, only curious.
Thanks Again.

Soma, no lambaste here, did not intend for w to represent weight, only common used reference for a multigrade blend of oil. No confusion here. It would seem that 20/50 would be a good blend.
vegasdave- way to go you Rebel.
