I have a 06 Midnight Silverado with hard bags and the windshield. It is stock except for the 7 holes I did in the Stage One exhaust mod. I routinely get 40-45 and have gotten as much as 55 on a couple of rides last year. One thing to remember for those of you who have been able to ride over the winter (unlike those of us in Upstate NY who endured winter from mid Nov until April) is that that the gasoline formulation that is provided by the refiners changes for the winter due to the cooler temps. I believe this change is nation wide. I have also found that there can be a significant difference in the mileage that I get depending on the brand of gas I use. I have found that the cheapest gas per gallon is not necessarily the most economical. If you try different brands of gasoline, you may find a difference in your mileage too. I have also found that switching from one brand to another so that the tank has a mixture of brands (I now use Mobil and Hess) can result in a significant increase too - I'm not sure why though.

I must be going crazy or blind.....or both!! Was doing some "tinkering" to the bike Friday night getting it ready for a ride Saturday and discovered (much to my surprise!!) that my needle setting wasn't what I thought it was. And I'm the one that set it up!

Instead of the clip being in the 3rd groove like I thought, it was in the 4th. So I tried a little experiment and moved it to the 3rd, since that's where I thought it was to begin with. Wrong!!! Bike wouldn't hardly run. Took everything apart and added a washer under the spacer; better but still not right. Bike started and idled fine, but when I ran it above 40 mph it starved for fuel and drained the float bowl and ran out of gas, so to speak. (With both these trial runs I didn't move the PMS; still at 3 1/2 turns out.) So I did it all again. Now I'm back to where I started; Clip in 4th groove, spacer and no washer. But this time I turned the PMS in a half turn. Rode the bike and everything seemed okay. And this is where it gets really good!! Seriously....

On the ride Saturday, which was a mix of interstate, state and county highways fighting headwinds, tailwinds and crosswinds with gusts up to 30 mph along with "in-town" stop-and-go traffic, I got 46.5 MPG!!!!!! That's the best I've ever gotten with this bike, except in extreme situations, riding 30-40 mph for extended periods, like in Yellowstone. So now I'll monitor the next few tanks (of gas) and see what kind of numbers it puts up.... and hope that the 46.5 wasn't a fluke.

Clip in 4th groove, spacer and no washer.

With no washer under the spacer you are a 1/2 groove leaner. So if you went to the 3rd you were actually on 2 1/2. When you went back to 4 you actually went to 3 1/2. That's why it's best to keep the stock setup of washer, clip, spacer, washer. That's the default setup that most people have in mind when they talk jetting. Normally to go to 3 1/2 you would put the clip in the 3rd with an extra washer under the spacer.
