Hi Doc,

I was wondering: what was the basis for what you said here? Was there a pronounced "knock" with the 1600 that was somehow addressed by Yamaha?

Really trying to get to the bottom of this.

Engine was redesinged in 2004. Then again with the valves in 2006.

On some motors there was a definite knock. If you have a premium membership on RSR Forum you can go back some years and read how big of an issue this was .... much larger than SVS. It's similar to lugging the motor but much more pronounced.

The knock that most folks hear nowadays does not usually compare to the 1600 knock.

I bought a 2004 with 48,000 kilometers on it, and the knock was very loud. After reading this tread ( thanks ) I used a little Lucas oil stabilizer in the crank and Lucas upper cylinder lubricant in the gas.
The knock is gone after 2 tanks of fuel..

I added MMO to the gas only and recently switched to the Lucas to see if that was better. The jury is still out
on the Lucas as I am about half way through a bottle.

Lucas Oil stabilizer will work almost instantly, new or used oil you can try it in either, it will do whatever it's going to do pretty quick. I tried their bike oil, but since I had a severe case of SVS that oil run, I can't form any opinion of it. It was trashed due to the carbon. I am sticking with Amsoil.

Now the fuel additive, use as directed, it works it's magic over time, and trust me some of these engines are in very poor shape inside as far as buildup. So just keep adding it only as directed, more can't hurt but why? Make sure it mixes well with the gas. I pour it into the filling stream.

If you take a plug out before you start and look inside at the top of the piston, then use it and look again much later, you will see the cleaning action. And everyone knows we can uses some upper cylinder lube.

The stuff has been around forever! I used it in my Kenworth for years and every CAT mechanic commented how clean the inside of my engine was, as if in disbelief. Then.... it was a tax write off! LOL Now it's a habit.

I was thinking of doing this, but haven't because I am worried that it may make the clutch slip. Anybody have any long term reviews of adding the Lucas Oil Stabilizer directly to the oil? Any clutch problems, or is it a go for it situation?
