I know someone selling a 2004 HD Sportster 1200 with about 26K miles on it. It looks clean. I haven't ridden it yet. He's firm at $5700. Is this a good price? This bike would be for my wife and would be her first bike. I appreciate opinions. Anyone reading my last thread about armrests, I like your idea of getting her her own bike.  |

That is about average. If you know him and know the bike it may not be a bad buy. You can still find them with less miles for about the about the same price.

That seems like a lot of bike for a first ride. How petite is she (not to be too nosey )? My first bike was a Suzuki Marauder 800 and it was plenty for a 6ft. 200lb. dude. The reason I say that is because I've heard people say that first time riders with a big bike, especially women, can get intimidated and spooked by these machines and sour to riding all together.

Why not a V* 1100 or a 650 you can find those in that range. At least here in Washington state you can. Fifty Yet  |

The sportster rides like a horse drawn carriage.
26k is high for a sporty, you'll be starting to get oil leak at the base of the jugs around 30k to 32k miles and those gaskets are cheap, but putting them in is about $800.
I have a 2007 883 low with 208 miles on it I will let go for $6250.00 it was a repo.

I don't know... the R* was my first bike. I've put almost 40K miles on my R* in about 4 years. I went to MSF school and she will too. Everyone I know who buys a 650 gets rid of it within 2 years (usually a year) because they can't keep up easily on uphills and want something bigger. I think the important thing is to get used to your bike before putting it on the road. So you all think the mileage is high and the price is only average. Perhaps I'll pass. I was thinking perhaps a VS 1100, slightly smaller and most likely I can get it even cheaper with fewer miles.

My wife has had her vstar 650 for 2 years, and loves it, she will out ride most of the guys in the group because she was taught well and learned how to be safe rather than just jump on and hope the ego will keep it on 2 wheels. She has no trouble keep up, weather I am 85 on the interstate or breezing the mountain curves. Its the rider not the bike that usually dosent keep up.
