Any High Miles Roadies out there? 5 Years, 9 Months ago
Just out of thought, how many miles has anyone heard of getting out of a R*?
A good friend of mine got over 250,000 miles out of his '79 Honda CBX 1100 engine. (It is now retired and resting in his garage, but still runs.)
Can I expect to get 100 or even 200 thousand out of my 05 Roadie?

Well I sure hope we can get over 100K out of our motors . Reason # 1 = I have had my bike for only 6 months and already have 10,000 miles on it. But that is why I got a cruiser bike to ride and not to look at. (still trying to figure out how these bikers have bikes that are 4 and 5 years old and only have a few thousand miles on them) Shoot I already need a new back tire too.(only smoked it up a few times for about 15 feet)Reason # 2 = Yes I will catch some smack for this from you guys (and gals,Right Angel Star)so here goes. I still have 65 payments left ( yes I did the no money down with 6 year contract) So at this rate I will have a 120K miles on her on my last payment. ( sure do not want to rebuild a motor while still oweing)Reason # 3 = The new motors (cylinder heads) nowadays are ceramic lined thereby absorbing heat disapation much better. This gives your rings and cylinders a much longer life span. Reason # 4 = I keep the maintence up to the tee. ( by the way a scary thought here, at 4000 miles I decided to start checking nuts, bolts and fastners 90% of them all were at least 1/4 turn loose, probly from our vibrating motors ) Now If this is just all the external parts loosining up then what is that to say for our internal parts??? Reason # 5 = I only paid half the price as a new HD so if I do blow my baby up at 40k - 80k miles and rebuild I should still have a few grand left for chrome when comparing to the price for you know who. (hey I am by no means putting down the HD s I have always liked them but they are just way out of my price range nowadays) Oh yeh and how about the guys that bought all the 06 HD s because of major changes in them and now they turn around a year later with super radical changes. Reason # 6 = It is just simply a darn good bike ( if only I could her to do a wheelie, maybe when I get the new Metz I will have some more grip and do a baby wheelie) Hey I hope I did not waste anybodys time with my long reply and I hope it will help out at least one person. Ride safe everyone and God Bless you all. Brother Mike
