Service pak 3 3 Months, 3 Weeks ago
Anyone running XP that's done the service pack 3? When I did service pack 2 it crashed my computer and I had to reinstall the OS. Like to avoid that again if I can.

I'll give a my 2 cents, don't know anything about it.. but when I had W98, the service pacs were primarily the same, each one just had additions to the previous one..I would be real careful or you'll crash it again..

SP3 is basically SP2 with all the updates. If you've kept up on all the updates to SP2 then I'd stay with the system you have unless it's giving you problems.

SO ..... if you are doing a fresh install then do SP3.

And .... what makes you think SP3 is crash proof.

They pretty much force you to do it because they stop supporting the older version. So eventually I'll have to do it.

That's correct .... but don't rush into it until you have problems with 2.

BTW .... SP3 was originally delayed 'cause of glitches.

Hey Doc

I don't think 3 is crash proof. That's what worries me. I have my auto updtaes set to notify me but not do it automatically. I haven't got any for quite a while. Now all of a sudden it's telling me to do 3. So I don't know if they have already stopped supporting 2.

Here's more comfort .... 3 weeks on the Mac and it hasn't crashed yet.

But seriously ... I'm running SP2 Pro and it's been rock solid .... very few crashes and I'm always tweaking the machine.

I haven't had any problems. But I'm wondering about the security updates since everything MS does is full of holes.
