My RS* is coming up on 2000 miles. Is there a recommended number of miles I should wait before using a synthetic oil?

If you had your 600 or so mile service and it was changed then, you should be good till the 4,000 mile service. And do it at that time, but I do not think it hurts if you just want to change at anytime from dyno to syn.
I drive a fair amount considering I only get 6 months to ride and changed the oil twice last summer and am ready for this seasons oil change already.

I use Mobil 1 15-50 Synthetic. No friction modifiers and my bike runs great with it. Decent price at about $22.00 for 5 qts at Wal-Mart.

I did the 600 mile oil change on both the engine and transfer case. I will probably go with the synthetic on my next change. Is there a better transfer case oil than what is recommended by the factory also???

I changed to syn at around 700 miles. For the transfer case you want a GL4 75/90 gear oil. Or a GL5 that is backwards compatible to 4. I use Royal Purple Maxgear.

for what it is worth...quite a few stores carry Amsoil in my area. I was in Fleet Farm and stumbled across it there. It was less than if you went online to order, because there is no shipping charge. I've also seen Amsoil in the local bike shops. As of 12:54 pm I became a grandpa to Zoie Marie. She is a cutie

I dont know why you guys complicate things...

Oil that doesn't say it is energy conserving ..still may have friction modifiers in it

Simply.. if it is JASO MA certified then it is what you should use ...if you dont see that certification then dont use it... whether it is dino oil or synthetic....how much clearer is that????

doesnt matter what brand...geeze

and if you do use a synthetic 20w 50 it does qualify for use in the transfer case...

I use Mobil 1 V-twin 20w-50 ...

I'm gonna change to Mobil 1 this weekend. I used Yamalube last oil change. Now I can start the great filter debate again.

I want to buy something different than the Yamaha oil filer...any suggestions ?
