I've never heard anything about them that makes me want to pay twice as much for them. Same reason I'd never trade my Accord Coupe for a BMW 3 series.

Only one I ever wanted was on old knucklehead chopper from back in the day. As for the new one's there isn't a chance....too much cash in somebody's pocket so I can be another wanna-be. While their quality and reliability has risen considerably over the years they just don't cut it when you do the math for performace, reliability and price. I might add that they wouldn't even be here if there hadn't been hugley protectionist legilastion back in the 70's. Glad they are still here and they do make a decent bike, it just cost twice what it should.

Not a chance! When looking for a bike I tried many brands. Yes, Harley was one of them because I wanted to give all the manufactures a chance at my hard earned $$$$. But they just seemed uncomfortable to sit on and ride. They just didn't fit me or my wallet...

A new one, not likely at double the price of a R*, only thing I liked was fuel injection that makes life so easy on the maintenance, just get on and go. The new 08 R* has that now.

But if I were to start a project bike just for fun and nostalgia an old Pan Head or vintage 50's would be still nice to ride around on.

Not realy. My Roadie fits me just fine. I've had two HDs and enjoyed them both but for power and reliability, they were no RoadStar. I have no problem walking away from my friends heritage softails or Fatboys even with all the heavy chrome stuff I've added but to be fair they only have eighty-eight cubic inches compared to the Roadies onehundred and two. If something were to happen to my Roadie I would probably look at the Roadliner.

I don't consider myself a wanna-be. And neither are a lot of people who ride or want an HD. They are riding what they like. Same as you. Please refrain from name calling.

Nah! I got the Harley syndrome done and over with by renting a couple... (which in it's self is a pretty good deal...) You get to ride a near brand new scooter that some one mantains...
But after all is said and done... I hanker for something like an old Indian "Chief"... You know... a "real" one...!
But, it would never replace my Star...
Although, a Stratoliner might be...
Huh?!? What's that dear...??? No! I'm not daydreaming again... Why do you ask?

ekon,
some of my friends have HD's and my R* walks on both of theirs one has the heritage and the other a dyna with the 1450 engine. Both dressed similar so weight is about the same.
One of the guys from the bar has the 08 fatboy, and he gave me a good run off the line.. but on the higher end the R* started pulling away I think he's geared longer, not as much pull at freeway speed..
Plus I do not race off the line much so he had me as I took off normal till I heard him jump on it.

I have always liked the way the heritage springer looks, kind of the old indian look. But I am sure my wife would probably leave me if I traded bikes. After all the nagging about buying stuff for Betsy(get it, black and white, like the cow) .Anyways, I am very happy with the R* and have no plans to trade.
