Squeak after lowering bike 7 Years, 7 Months ago
I lowered my wife's Roadstar using dogbones, and ever since there is a nasty squeak when she goes over bumps or twists the throttle quickly.
It seems to me to be coming from the belt.
I had a dealer mechanic tell me that after you lower the bike, you change the degree of the swing arm, and as a result, have to change how you check the belt adjustment. He said it now should be adjusted with someone sitting on the bike in order to get an accurate tightness. Does this make sense?
For those of you who have lowered your Road Star, how do you now check belt tightness?
Any other ideas of what might be causing this constant squeak? It's driving her nuts!

That's correct. If you lowered the bike you will need to tighten up the belt a bit.

I bought a HD belt guage from HD Ottawa for $32.

Or you can just tighten both sides up 1/4 turn at a time until it 'whirrrs' and then back off both sides 1/8 of a turn.

I will try that then ... Hey Doc, you in Ottawa?

My wife is going to be cusomizing her roadstar this winter, and absolutely loves the picture of yours - do you have anymore pictures? If so, send them to my email at rev@bikerschurch.com

thanks

Yes, I'm in Ottawa.

You can see more pics at http://members.rogers.com/docshadow If there's anything specific you want to know or pics you want, we can correspond by e-mail.

BTW .... I find women like 'red' bikes no matter what they look like.

Take out the plastic rollers and tighten the belt a little bit. Don't get too tight, it will ride weird when too tight. Remember to loosen the rear brake caliper B4 adjusting belt and DO NOT over tighten axle nut - no more then 75 ft. lbs. Don't ask me how I know! #@#@&*(*&^@!
