I was checking out your settings for the 45mpg. I have the Roadhouse 2 into 1s and want to get the Maxair kit. I want to dial in same settings as you have as starting point. what else do I need to buy from MaxAir to do it? Does everything come with the Maxair kit?

I'm not saying the guy is right or wrong. I'm just giving him some food for thought from my perspective. He's a big boy. He can make up his own mind.
Now, I sense that same "feeding frenzy" that I did over on RSP. Everybody has to get their digs in on Maxair because the owner happens to be a friend of mine.
He's a friend of mine too 06. I used his air kit and I liked it. Including how it looked.
So I can tell its not that for sure.

Order an extra foam filter element, so you always have a clean, oiled replacement ready to go.
Order Maxair's Maxmix Pro PMS screw. It's well worth it because it has a knurled thumbscrew that allows you to tweak on the fly.
I routed my crankcase breather to the ground, rather than use the standard routing thru the air filter. I don't want any dispersants being recylced thru my motor! To accomplish this, I bought a 4-foot piece of 3/4-inch rubber fuel line ($5 @ Auto Zone) and a Drag Specialties crankcase breather filter ($9 @ Trenton HD dealership). Works great!
I also removed my AIS at the same time, so I also bought the Maxair AIS Removal kit. This has nothing to do with performance or jetting; however, it may lessen or eliminate popping on decels, and it really cleans up the front and left side of the Road*, making it look much better and making it much easier to clean.
The "out-of-stock" message currently displayed on the Maxair site MAY be a residual from the last time that the MaxFlo's were out of stock. If you want to buy one, email or phone Maxair and get the straight poop.
Good luck!

Another quick note:
I was getting 40+ MPG for the first full riding season (2007), when I was running dino oil. For this riding season, I made the switch to synthetic (Shell Rotella T 5W-40) and I am now getting 45 MPG.
Synthetic oil is alot more "slippery" than dino oil. Since nothing else has changed, my guess is that the motor doesn't have to work as hard now. Hence, the added fuel economy.
Thanks.

Thanks, Gram. I have to admit that I'm a bit defensive as a result of a recent experience over on RSP, in which I was banned for defending Lee in what was a very specious posting.

fwiw 06, I know you are relatively new to forum life (compared to some).
Think of it this way. There are guys on here who have forgotten more about these bikes than you will ever learn. It s rare that you will ever see any of them jumping into a thread, or creating a thread where they assume a superior position of knowledge to anyone else. The exceptions tend to be rare and when someone has done something numerous times and really knows their way around.
They also tend to avoid negative characterizations to support their arguments. Its a respect for others thing. If you have jetted a hundred bikes you might have some high ground to stand on. Reading stuff written by the guy who did jet a hundred bikes does not make your knowledge any more factual than anyone elses. You have to be THAT guy. And those guys don't tend to make recommendations as though they are fact. They know better.
Supporting Lee is great. Hard selling Lee ends up hurting him. Your not Lee, and Lee doesn't talk like that in public places. Folks tend to think you are his representative and so think you are speaking for him. Thats not fair to Lee, and he has worked too hard building MaxAir to deserve that kind of rep. Especially when he is not responsible for what you do.
Again, just my $.02. Take it for whatever it may be worth. Folks are capable of making good decisions without a hard sell. If they don't agree with you thats their opinion and they are entitled to it. They don't need anything driven home that hard. AND, you might be wrong.
Just some things to think about

I just went back thru all the posts and I cannot see where I made a "recommendation".

Firstly, I not hard-selling anything. I'm simply endorsing a product based upon my own personal experience, as I say in my post. Secondly, Lee avoids public places because of what is happening right now.
Folks tend to think you are his representative and so think you are speaking for him. Thats not fair to Lee, and he has worked too hard building MaxAir to deserve that kind of rep. Especially when he is not responsible for what you do.
Folks can THINK whatever they want. If they want to KNOW, then all they have to do is ask. For the record, I do not work for Maxair in any capacity. I am a customer who uses and believes in their product. I am also a personal friend of the owner. Are you reading this, people?

Hey, folks can disagree all they want. I have no problem if the individual that I'm posting to disagrees with me. Let us work it out. Worst case scenario is that we will agree to disagree. Opinions are great becasue everyone has one! What gets my goat is when a third party jumps into the fray, uninvited, defending one opinion over another. This is very incendiary behavior, IMHO, and counter-productive.
Again, Gram, I don't think that I'm being unreasonable at all. I also don't think that I've been disrespectful or untruthful to anyone.

Man.... Was really hoping you were going to get the message here 06. And really dissapointed that you now want to go tit for tat. Seriously, I have other things to do...
I just went back thru all the posts and I cannot see where I made a "recommendation".
"Bite the bullet and get one."
"If you wait until next time, you may be waiting a LONG time, perhaps as long as those of us who have been waiting for a Nemesis manifold!"
"Follow both sets of instructions to the letter and you'll have no problem."
"If you follow the Maxair instructions TO THE LETTER, you will not have any problems."
"If you change the airkit, you MUST rejet."
"You are probably making yourself more susceptible to the dreaded SVS by doing nothing, than by installing an aftermarket airkit and rejetting."
"Opening up the air passage creates more "disturbance" at the intake, thereby allowing more efficient atomization of fuel as it leaves the carburetor."
Firstly, I not hard-selling anything.
"You are going to love it. Trust me"
"Don't fool yourself. You probably ARE a performance guy and don't know it."
"You are probably making yourself more susceptible to the dreaded SVS by doing nothing, than by installing an aftermarket airkit and rejetting."
"I'm just trying to provide you some basic information so that you can make an informed decision."

Doesn't even need a comment... But, this is a public forum, I seriously doubt anyone will take the time to clarify their own presumptions with you. You are not their focal point.
I have no problem if the individual that I'm posting to disagrees with me. Let us work it out.
I think the bigger point, and apparently the one I failed to make clearly enough, was to avoid posting in a way that even needed to be worked out. If your posts invite this type of intervention, and it seems to follow you, isn't there a message there that needs to be paid attention to?
I have to get back to work now.

C'mon, Gram. Give me a break. You're not serious, right?
All I see here is another game of "my way or the highway". It's okay for other folks to offer their opinions, as long as those opinions align with yours, right?
Regarding "messages", I just like to do my own thinking, that's all. I don't need anyone else to tell me what I'm thinking or to do my thinking for me. I say what's in my heart, even if it doesn't follow the party line. I don't compromise my values for anyone. If I disagree with something or someone, you're going to hear it from ME. I don't need anyone else to fight my battles for me. I'm a leader, not a follower.
There is nothing so powerful as truth, my friend. Remember that when you point a finger at someone, there are three pointing back at YOU.
Geez, oh, man.
