I've only had the carb on my Star expectorate once... The fuel was hot, the engine was hot the weather was hot... Man! it was hot that day...! And, I didn't get to clean the engine off for another three days When I finally got "Back to the Ranch..." I warmed the engine up (a little)... and wet it down... And, then I sprayed it down with "S-100".. let it sit... and hosed off all that dirt, crap, crud and corruption... I know this isn't a solution to your problem... But, it will help once you get it taken care of...! Hey, and welcome to the Clinic!

Thanks for the help, guys. I'm almost through this tank of gas with the Seafoam in it, so I'll burn that up and fill it up again and add the rest of the Seafoam and see if that helps. I'll get some decent carb cleaner, too, and see what that does. When I started it up yesterday with the petcock turned to "off," it didn't puke, so that's a good thing. And I turned it off again before shutting it down.
Glad to know other people share the suckage with me. I usually end up with the problems that nobody's ever heard of.

Unklscrufy, See my thread "Bike is slow to Idle Down." Muskie seems to have it figured but I am in the middle of tearing the carb down now so I'll let you know if he hit it on the head.

I bought my (new) 2007 Midnight Silverado last March and have been reading your comments since then. This is the first time I've been inclined to register and try to contribute. I'm a novice Road Star owner but I'd accumulated 53K miles in four years on the VStar 1100 I traded last March. The first extended ride I took this spring was the first hot weekend of the year. We filled up in So. Utah and headed up the west side of the state. We made a 30 min comfort stop 90 miles later and when I tried to start up again my Road Star didn't want to start. Normally it's just touch the starter and go but this time I had to crack the throttle before I got any life. Then another rider pointed our the fuel that had puked from the carb and puddled up on the side of the engine. This happened again at the next stop then I remembered what I had been told by the mechanic when I first picked up the bike: "Don't over fill the gas tank. If you do it will cause fuel to leak from behind the air cleaner and you may experience vapor lock." I don't know where the fuel goes when you over fill but I don't think it goes to the ground. I've been extra careful to never fill above the bottom of the fill tube and I've put 4500 mile on my Road Star since I purchased the last week of March and haven't experienced this problem again.

I checked the manual and you may be right. There appears to be a vent hose to the top of the tank beneath the speedo but I don't see anything I would call an "overflow". It would be nice to know if the guy at the dealership had some special insight, but this is the same guy that told me the Road Star has a 6V electrical system. That's the reason I took my bike to a different dealer to complain about the excessive engine noise. Their mechanic agreed and it's going into the shop on 7/1. I hope they can help. I'd love to be able to hear my stock exhaust over the engine clatter.

Your gonna find 99% of Yami stores...dont know Crap about these bikes. They just go on what people tell them. Yami dealerships are out to sell ATV's and rockets. They are forced to sell street bikes. I havent found two dealerships to this day that will tell me the same thing is wrong, when I ask them about a problem. And I've been to dealers from Ohio, Mich, Ind. Ill. and Wis. Today I asked dealer what to charge me if they put on the new Eiback spring. One said a hundred bucks 'cause you dont have to take the swingarm apart, the other two said a couple hundred because they have to pull the swingarm off. I wouldnt be suprised to hear them tell me they have to remove the forks to put the rear spring on! This place is the best to learn what you need to know... "dont fill the tank clear full"...give me a break, I fill mine to the cap everytime for 17000 miles, and its not punched out...I've never had it leak! I've found 1 mechanic at a Yami stealership that knows what he's talkin' about when it comes to Roadstars...cause he drives one everyday! He told me they gave him no training at all, when these bikes came out in '99 ... Just learn as you go. If I went to a certified Chevy dealer to have major work done on my truck,... I'll be danged if I'm letting a wrench touch it that doesnt know anything about it. Sorry for the rant.. my .02
