Star seemed to pull out all the stops with the new VMAX power plant. A 1679cc 65° V4 has 16 valves and a relatively high 11.3:1 compression ratio fed through a five-speed transmission and shaft final drive to the rear wheel. Not content with the horsepower and torque this basic engine configuration would deliver, Yamaha added its latest tricks from the sport bike category, including throttle-by-wire. Yamaha got to a claimed 197 horsepower and 122 pound feet of torque by adding YCC-I, the Yamaha chip-controlled intake that allows intake funnel lengths to vary from 150mm down to 54mm (the change occurs at 6,650 rpm). http://www.motorcycledaily.com/04june08_star2009vmax_p1.htm If I was young and crazy again, I might would want one. That would be fun ....until the bike and me became a big SPLAT! I used to have a Maxim that went like stink... I regret selling the 1983 750 Maxim with only 14,000km on it. But I didn't have any use for a roadbike back then, and was never expecting to ever ride another one... AND I was too cheap to buy a new back tire for it... Yup! I agree Pop. For some reason Yami puts ugly exhaust on any speedster bike they make...
