I like your attitude! Like StarCruiser06 said the washers are for back pressure. Many engines are set up for a certain amount of back pressure as part of their effective performance and the R* isn't any different. Once you start playing with carb and air box settings you find yourself "tuning" the exhaust. Just part of being a big boy with big toys. If you want to create back pressure, prior to putting the two halves together, take the large washer (about the inside diameter of the smaller pipe (or as close to 1 7/8 as possible) and tack weld it to the inside perpendicular to the exhaust flow. Then pop rivet them together. You can also halve the washer and tack weld a half in each pipe setup in the same manner. Make a set of each and go from there. M2CTS.
