#92038 sprt220 (User) Fresh Boarder Posts: 24 transfer case 2 Months, 2 Weeks ago   I know I could find this somewhere but I will ask a dumb question. I want to change my transfer case gear oil and I wondered where is the drain plug? Is it on the outside of the case on the bottom left? Or is it on the inside of the case?Thanks in advance. When is it best to change the transfer oil ? I know what the owners manual says but they insisted. I treat the trasfer case the same way I treat a new gear box in industry. Run them for a little while then change oil. Reason for this is that the metal particulate from break in is not filtered out in any way and resuspends in the oil while running. Just a good practice to do this I believe no matter what dealer says. After first change then follow the manual with no worry. I did my first oil change AND transfer case oil change at 600 miles. I'm now coming up on 3000 miles and will change them both again. I looked in the manual and it calls for GL-4 I cant find the stuff anywhere I been looking for a week and 7 different places and nobody has any GL-4 just GL-5,MT-1.. It should say on the bottle somewhere if it is. Or you could look it up online.
