Musky,

Since Doc's being so hard on you, I'll be nice to you. Your bike is really looking sharp. I think adding the BAK and removing the passenger floor boards has really made a difference.

Looks great.

I gave up, although I think Doc may be trying to help me out.

Ya know, I don't care what you say about him, he's okay in my book.

musky:

im glad to see that you have the pms issue pluged off.

man that was a lot of replies.

i was thinking it was from your oversized o-rings on the manifold, you may want to recheck your torque on the manifold bolts while the bike is cool, that is if you didn't get the orings that are made of with a high silica content, caterpillar has found this to be a problem with standard o-rings on their engines, they flaten out from the heat and the bolts become loose, in the manifold situation it could then suck air and cause you problems, you dont have to change the o-rings you may just want to retighten if needed.

Hey dozer

I got the NAPA O rings that a lot of people use. Of course that could just mean that a lot of people are doing it wrong but that doesn't seem to be the case. Actually if you lap the manifold you shouldn't need to use the larger O rings but they aren't really that much thicker. I'll give it a while and see how it goes. What you're saying makes sense so if issues come up I'll chceck it out. Thanks for the tip.

OK, had some things confirmed and have some new (to me anyway) thoughts on this whole adventure.

Confirmed:

If you take a Saturday ride that is 150 miles one way the rain will catch you exactly half way between home and where you are going.

These here Road Stars are pretty nice bikes!

The so called "Glue" that holds the boot on to the BAK is a joke just like everyone says! And the K&N that comes with the BAK will put oil all over your pipes and the side of your bike just like everyone says.

Thoughts:
(Yeah, I have them............ sometimes )

There isn't anything to be afraid of on doing the jetting or porting the manifold. The hardest part is taking all the crap off to do the jetting / porting

Don't know if lapping the mainifold is a must do but once you take it off to port it and see how rough it is I can't see not doing it. I was floored that Yami left a mating surface unfinished like that Even with the O rings doing most of the sealing.

Once you get it running good after the jetting don't assume it as could as it could be. Play with it a little. You can always go back to where you had it set.

If you get a BAK just go ahead and re glue the boot. You'll have to anyway.

Check for air leaks before you call the jetting / lapping job done. You're there already so just do it.

As long as I was working on my bike (Fixing the crash bars)before my ride today I decided to play with the PMS a little just out of curiousity more than anything else. First, when I took the BAK off the boot stayed on the carb. So I put some silicone (only thing I had) around the tube on the BAK, slid the boot on, put more silicone around the seal, and put a heavy duty Zip tie on it and cinched it down. Then I nabbed some starting fluid from the fleet managers cabinet and did a better check for air leaks. None there thankfully but I should have done it better before. I ended up with the PMS out 3 turns. It was good at 2 1/4 but it's better now. Don't know what my mileage is because I never remember to set the trip but to be honest I'm happy with the way the bike is running so if I'm not getting 50 mpg I'm not going to sweat it. OK, I'm done.
