Trickle Charger Question 5 Years, 8 Months ago
|
|
I don't get to ride as often as I'd like (who does? ), so I invested in a trickle charger a while back, and the thing works great. My question is about the "easy connector" supplied with it. I read the instruction & spec sheets for the Battery Tender brand and the Schumacher brand, and they both have the same odd ommission...on the product box and on their websites, they both brag about easy connectors that you you can just plug in once you hop off the bike. It's a simple little quick connect plug to use instead of taking off the seat & attaching the alligator connector to the frame and the positive battery terminal. But in the actual product instructions, it's never mentioned!
It seems terribly obvious, but I take nothing for granted. Do the ring terminal connectors for the EZ plug attach directly to the battery posts so the EZ plug hangs out just a little under the seat? They make such a big deal about NOT connecting the ground alligator clamp to the negative battery post and ONLY to the bike frame, why would it be OK to connect the EZ plug wire to the negative battery post?
Thanks,
RK

I have each ring connector bolted to the battery posts and the plug comes out under the seat. You do not want to use the aligator clips as a 'permanent' connection.
I'm going to replace the current one I have, which runs off the AC, for one that uses solar power.

WOW! I'm surprised my garage hasn't blow up yet.
Doesn't matter if the garage is like a cave. They come with long cords or you can add additional lengths
BTW .... I have one of those solar powered LED lights for my cave-like shed. Man, it's the cats ass. No stinging wire, no replacing batteries and it produces enough light from a small 6" unit to light up 100 sq ft. Now I have someplace to go to read the paper in piece and quiet.
Now if I can find a solar powered TV.

They have to put the part about grounding to the frame for UL purposes. You can hook it up right to the negative terminal.
