Installing Fat Tire Kit 5 Months, 2 Weeks ago
Hey everyone. I am new to bikes but have spent tons of time around them. I feel in love with my father's bike which had a wide tire kit and am curious if anyone has installed one and about how much does it cost to install. I know the 300 wide tire kit needs either frame mods or changing to chain drive, so I wanna go a hair smaller than that, probably a 280 kit. any advice would be great.

Click on the "Tech Articles" tab towards the top of the page. Scroll almost all the way down. You'll see a couple articles of fat tire mods.

With some luck you can get a 240 in a stock swingarm but bigger than that you need a wider swingarm. Usually over 200 is best to get a wider swingarm.

Check around the internet you can find some vendors selling parts and kits. It's not a big project for a novice.

Thanks for pointing my to the tech section. This is the one mod that I really wanna do, and probably the most expensive to, lol.

It's going to be very expensive. The average fat tire kit is going to put you in the hole around $6K. You WILL need a new swing arm; you will need new wheels and tires; fender; pulley's; rotors. Personally, if you're going to make an investment like that, I would stay away from the 240 kit. Truth be told, you will NOT be impressed with the size. I would go big and phat (if I were you). The leader in options for a phat tire kit is: RC Components. I really want to go phat myself but I can't justify the cost and I've yet to find someone selling a good one cheap.

Good luck!
