Are you sure each fill up was a full 5 gallons? When I bother to check my MPG, I figure the gallons displayed on the pump to the nearest 1/10th and then do the math. Also, I only use the trip odometer to keep track of how much gas is left. The guage isn't all that accurate. Mine can be on "E" and I still have +/-1.5 gallon in the tank. My gas light comes on at .5 gallons. When new, I got about 35mpg. Got it broke in, tweaked the PMS(3 out) and switched to synthetic oil and now get an average of 45mpg. Actually got 53mpg once.

Try checking your gas mileage this way - on just one tank.
- Next time you fill up,
- Write down you mileage at that time
- Drive until almost empty, but not going into reserve
- Fill it up. At the pump, write down your new milage and the gallons you put itn to get it full
- Once home divide the miles by the gallons
- i.e 116 miles divided by 2.82 gallons equals 41.13 MPG
Hope this helps.

Got about 4600 miles on my 06 Roadie. Took a 300 mile trip today and checked the gas mileage for the first time since I bought it new. Engine is still all stock.
162 miles / 3.6 gallons = 45 MPG.
Not too bad at all considering that about 80 percent of the ride was at about 75-80 MPH.

Chief802 at a little slower speed you can push the 50 mpg. I've done it on trips. Staying say 55 to 65. try it you'll like it
but if you get into traffic it will go down some.

Yea, I usually am a pretty slow rider, 55-60 on open road, but I was in a hurry to get back today.
I do however, notice that the Roadie gearing seems to lug a little in 5th at 55. Mine seems to run at optimum around 60.

I don't hit 5th until around60 then let it settle down to a pace of 60 to 65 by my tach which is around 2100 to 2500.

I got 44 on the last tank, but I almost never get out on the highway, and rarely ever use 5th.
I go out and I "toddle," as I tell everybody... usually back roads to see the sights, smell the scents, and hear that 98 inch motor!

I think the issue has been identified by others, but to calculate gas mileage you need to know the amount of gas going in and the number of miles traveled. To say that you filled the scoot for the 3rd time, was that becuase you ran out of gas, or because the gauge said you were low? When my gauge hits E and the low fuel light comes on I still have approximately 1.3 gallons of gas in my scooter. Reserve will be necessary at about .9 gallons. If you were to have ridden to reserve and filled the tank to capacity the most you would have put in is 8.8 gallons divided by 225, mileage would be 25.568. Of course the assumption is that you filled the tank to the same place each time and that is unlikely. To accurately gauge gas mileage you need to track how much fuel is put in over a longer period of time and how many miles are driven. You can get a feel number by using the trip meter and gas pump indicator to get a number, but these will vary a great deal depending on riding style, conditions, loading and speed. So as was suggested take the total number of miles traveled on your trip meter and divide by the gallons pumped, do not assume you put in 5 gallons as if you did that would be dangerously close to an empty tank and that is not a good idea on a regular basis. My bet is that you are actually getting mid 30's on a new engine ridden mostly in stop and go traffic and high 30's to low 40's in highway cruising. These numbers will improve as the engine gets loosened up.
At any rate I would not be concerned until the scoot gets over a 1,000 miles on it and starts to settle in. Good luck and have fun. It is a good idea to at some point take the scoot out and run it to reserve monitoring closely how far you can go. With reserve you have about 35 miles to find fuel or your scoot can get very heavy pushing it to the next gas stop

When I got my 06 1700 I was getting under 30 mpg at first but the longer she broke in the better the mileage got. Gradually it worked up into the 30's and then up to 40 which is where I currently run on mpg. Just my two cents worth.
