I start it choked/enriched and let her warmup for about 10-20 seconds, push the knob in about half way and start putting my helmet, jacket and gloves on. Take my time. Then I give the throttle a little (not blip) twist. If she doesn't protest push the button the rest of the way in and I ride off. Usually takes at least 5 minutes.

My 2005 has always been cold blooded. If the temp is in the 50 - 60 degree range, probably a good 5 minutes. Full choke (enricher) to start then half-way in for as long as it takes to go in the house and get my jacket and helmet, then all the way in. I always wait until I can rev it up with no hesitation before I take off.

Probably more than you wanted to know

There is no trick to mine....just a couple quick turns on the throttle and she fires right up...NO CHOKE

I doubt if mine warms up over 1 to 2 minutes. I usually take off with the enricher still out halfway and ride that way maybe half a mile.
These engines are not built to idle. That is the surest way to build up carbon and soot in the engine, and unless you are running the engine until the oil gets to normal operating temp. then idle time is a waste. Even the oil checking directions tell you to ride the engine until warm, not idle until warm.

On any engine, as soon as oil pressure reaches operating range, the engine then will warm up quicker and more even under a moderate load.

Of course I don't lug the engine nor race the engine until the engine is warm enough for all parts to have adjusted to the temperature.

I have several gas engines with over 100,000 miles, and a detroit truck engine with 850,000 miles, and I have never left any of them to idle until they "warm up". Moderate loads and moderate rpms are the best warm up the engine can have.

Not claiming I'm always right, nor even very smart, but I'm happy with what I think I know.

When the engine is stone cold I pull the choke all the way out, fire her up, and head out the driveway almost immediately. Two blocks up the street I turn onto the main road in our subdivision. When I hit third gear I reach down and push the choke all the way in. Rock 'n roll.

Ditto Heavy. As a matter of fact, the longer I 'warm'er up' the crappier she runs ... until she blows out whatevers built up inside. She much prefers the chillier weather, more so than I.

Whatever method your bike likes. I would say as a general rule the less time sitting and idling the better. But you want to ride easy until it's all the way warmed up.

full choke, start, push choke half-way in immediately, idle for 10-15 seconds, good to go! I don't get on it until it's warm...maybe 2-3 minutes later...
