Well , the plugs are the right color , that's good! Oil can have a slight fuel smell , as the gas and oil are only separated by the pistons (therefore some gas residual can get by the pistons and into the oil). If it is a STRONG gas smell , something could be up , if it worries you , turn the petcock off at night. No petcock , no fuel (besides the little in the bowl). If she is running great , just ride it! ARE YOU DOING SHORT TRIPS ALOT OR NOT LETTING IT WARM UP BEFORE GOING? MAYBE LEFT THE ENRICHER ON TOO LONG? AIR COOLED ENGINES HAVE A LOOSER TOLLERENCE INSIDE FOR EXPANSION. IF THE ENGINE IS NOT WARMMED ENOUGH COULD BE RUNNING A LITTLE FUEL PAST THE RINGS. THE NOSE IS A SENSITIVE TOOL AND DOESN'T TAKE MUCH FUEL TO SMELL IT. JUST A LITTLE SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT.

If you are looking for a replacement carb, I found this on Ebay if you or anyone is interested, I am not sure if this is your answer, you may want to rejet and set your carb first. I thought I would post this.

Big Bear, I thought we had a dry sump oil system...which keeps the oil out of the crank case area? I looked in the Roadstar Manual and could swear that there was a diagram showing where and how the oil flows but couldn't find the page ...I thought it just returned to the tank?...but then how would the pistons and cylinder walls get oiled if that were the case? It would have to pool in the crankcase area?
