Rear shock!!! 5 Months, 1 Week ago
My 01 roadstar.. has been really soft and bottoming out badly this year.. My guess is the rear shock is shot but not 100 percent sure as of yet. It is alot worse then it was last year. So guess that is the next thing that i need to do. Anyways anyone know of a place to get a decent shock at a decent price????? Thanks in advance..

Just put this on my 2000 silverado, what a difference...it's like having a new bike, control in corners and the bottoming out is gone ... took a little work but less than 2 hours wish I had done it last year

Did you use the standard shock or the 1" lowered version?

Re:Rear shock!!! 5 Months ago
Okay a question to the gurus on here.. I have a 420 progressive shock coming. My question is about where to set the adjustment on it to get a good ride. I am a guy that weights roughly 245.. Ride solo i would say about 70 percent of the time... 2 up the rest of the time... Thanks in advance for the advice.

Re:Rear shock!!! 5 Months ago
Cancilla ... Standard shock, not 1 inch lowered should not make a difference but don't know

Stormin .... They suggest setting in middle "3" than adjusting from there, I have at 3 and it feels great, I have a few pounds on you so might feel ok with rider as well

I used the description of how to remove and replace from this site, was very helpful over the repair manual I have for the bike. As they say remove horn and you will need a helper to manipulate the back wheel to take pressure off the bolts. For bike shop this should be no more than 1 hour labor, again it took me less than two hours. The unit I used was spring and shock so no need to have a press to compress the spring but if just replacing the spring most auto shops have one used for car struts

Place a lift under the bike such that when raised the front wheel does not raise off the ground. Raise the rear wheel about 5" off the ground. Place a 4x4 under the back wheel and lower the bike until the rear supension is neurtal ... in other words, when there is not pressure on the bolt. You'll know 'cause you can pull the bolt out easily.

No need for another person.
