Re:Gas gauge acting up 2 Months ago
Dampener in the tank that makes sense, hey it's good to know that they all do this.. now I know my bike is normal. Just the thought of having to take my bike into the dealership for work screws up my groove man
whenever the roady is not at home with me I feel empty.. sometimes I go out at night just to look at it before I go to bed.

It's makes you sleep better when you look at something your in love with before going to bed.

Thanks, fella's

Re:Gas gauge acting up 1 Month, 3 Weeks ago
Today on my way home from Natural Bridge, VA at the first gas stop when I started my 04 Midnight R* I got 8 blinks from the low fuel light, a pause and a it recycled. Everything seemed to work fine and the light eventually stopped. I rode 160 miles stopped to fill up before putting it back in the barn and it did it again. I thought it might be the way the cap was seated but reseating didn't help. Because I didn't stop anywhere in between gas stops I don't know if it was a part of the start up sequence or not. But I do know that now any time I start it I get the same 8 blinks and a pause. Also the gas gauge normally would cycle up to full in about 5 miles but it took almost 20 miles for it to show fuel.

Any ideas?

Thanks for the help.

I'd take Musky's advice and disconnect the battery overnight, reconnect the next day and see if the system reset itself. I believe the 8 blinks relates to the fuel sending unit. Disconnecting the battery could reset the unit.

Re:Gas gauge acting up 1 Month, 3 Weeks ago
I have an 01, bought it about 15 months ago with just under 16k on it, about 4 or 5 months after I got it, I started having problems with the gas guage and speedometer not working all the time. Sometimes it would not work, other times it would register about half the speed I was going. Most of the time they worked fine. I had the tranny recall done in late Nov, of 2007, and both the fuel and speedometer worked great. After a few months, I would have it not got thru the start up diagnostic, where the needles move back and fourth when you turn the key on. I just turn it back off "unlock" and then back on, and it works fine. Sometimes I just tap the glass cover of the speedometer, and it works fine. Never have had the fuel light blink thou.....anyone else have anything similer to my little issue? When I checked on a new guage, and was told $400.....I figured I can live with my issue.....

Steve,

Sometimes mine does the same thing. It doesn't happen very often but it's just weird when it does happen. Most of the time, I can tap on the glass and it starts working again. I don't think I've ever had a problem with the speedometer but the gas gauge does. No blinks for me either.

MMO in yer gas helps with keeping valves and the fuel system clean from
varnish deposits....

I imagine it helps the sending unit stay clean as well..

just replaced my fuel sender about 2 weeks ago. Hardest part was draining the tank. Piece of cake. Mine was dead and the light was blinking all the time. Tried the battery disconnect... didn't work. Part was like 60 bucks
