Progressive Shock Spring 5 Months ago
Finally received my order from Phat Performance and one of the things I ordered was a new Progressive spring. Well, when I opened the box the spring was in, there was the spring but nothing else; no instructions, etc... So now I've got a question. It might be really obvious when I get things apart, but which direction does the new spring get installed? Since it's progressively wound, the coils are closer together at one end and farther apart at the other end. So which end goes to the front and which goes to the rear????

Thanks,
In The Wind,
Aaron

Logic tells me the tightly wound up goes toward the front of the bike (where it attaches to the main frame versus the swingarm). Or maybe it was one of the voices again?! M2CTS

I was kinda leaning in that direction. Because if my logic is correct, you would want the more tightly wound portion at the bottom of the spring's travel, which on a Road* would be towards the front.

I doubt that it matters. You're compressing the whole spring ... but along it's length, different parts compress sooner than others.

It doesn't matter which way you put the spring in. You do need a press, spring compression tool or find a suspension shop that can change it for you.
Do NOT try to do it without one of those tools...don't ask me how I know

Buy the spring from Looney Custom Seats. They have a loaner program for the compression tool. Its a great deal...I did it!

I used my bench vise, homemade clamps and wire.

Thanks all!
Already have the spring and a compression tool from working on the Vulcan. Just wasn't sure if the Progressive spring was "directional".
