Drilled out the plug and it was all the way in so I figured I'd monkey with it. Backed it out to 2.5 to try and get rid of shotgun size backfiring with stage III pipes. Didn't work. I'll have to monkey further. When I pulled out the enricher it stalled. Is that supposed to happen? Also, If I adjust the PMS with the stock air cleaner off, doesn't the setting change when I put it back on. And, can I run it around the neighborhood with the air cleaner off or will that cause a lean condition and totally screw me up?

Let me get my disclaimer in first. I could be completely wrong and it's possible I have no idea what I'm talking about. Now that we got that out of the way...

I don't think your bike would be backfiring because of your fuel screws if they were twisted all the way in from the factory. Rich conditions cause afterburn, which could lead to your problem, but I've never heard of a lean bike backfiring because it was lean. Did you install new crush gaskets when you put your pipes on? I'd suspect an exhaust leak at the flange. Yeah, running with no filter element will throw your fuel mixture off a little, but it shouldn't be enough to cause a problem. Everything I know, I learned on a 650, so the Roadie may be different. Either way, hope you get it figured out.

If I take the airbox off my 2001 Roadie it starts and runs but bogs out lean when you open the throttle(stock bike)

Backfiring you most likely have an exhaust leak at the exhaust port. Get you some new gaskets and put them on. Then you can set you PMS with the air cleaner on.
