Help so frustrated 4 Months, 4 Weeks ago
Well i just got the jetting right on my '05 and fixed the svs....now yesterday she dies on me battery been acting like it was getting weak had to jump her offwhen we left. Bout 30 miles from home look down and my guages were dead.Pulled into a station, No restart had to jump her off. Made it about a mile down the road she backfired twice and shut off had to call a bro w/a trailer. Took Batt. in for load test this morning checked okay after charge. Voltage at batt while idling shows from 12.8 to 13.8 it varies on rpm.... checked ohm load at stator plug got a .5,.5, and a 1.2 so what does that mean. Bad stator? This bike had 5700 miles on it when i bought it now at 8300 two months in and starting to wish I had bought the Harley.

Duh .... didn't have my neg lead grounded when I checked the otherside of the plug. got 21 and 61 on both sides all the way up to rectifier. But I noticed if i unplug the rectifier completly the engine idles up considerably..... plug it back in and it idles right back down...Thats got me thinking the rectifier isn't allowing enough voltage to go back to the battery...just getting 12 something instead of the needed 13.5-14 anybody got any thoughts

A guess, when you disconnect the rectifier, there is no load on stator. the engine would idle faster, when you connect the rectifier, your bad battery puts a load on the stator and the idle slows down... I'm betting you have a bad cell in the battery..

Alright guys I'm trusting you. went and bought a new batt couldn't find one local for the 05 it calls for some 14 bs # got an everstart maxx in the standard 20lbs after doing some research the MAXX's are produced by YUASA anyway and only run 61.99 the difference in the 14bs and the 20lbs is the 14 is only 200 cca and the 20lbs is 275cca . The battery that came out of it was an EXTREME powersports GTX20LBS so the maxx should be the same. My guess is it sat in the dealership fro several months with no activity and since its an agm it killed a cell in it. I remembered also when the lady at advance hooked it to the test machine she only set it for a 200amp test instead of 275 she was kind of a know it all but that may be why it checked okay after reading coug's suggested reading.looks like the 05 would be better off with more cca's anyway. I hope.
